As the title states, I’m just trying to see everyone’s opinion on the new balance update on its way. I’m my opinion, there are numerous cards that are viable options for a nerf but again, it’s my opinion. These would be the cards, obviously not all of them but the ones I believe have a chance of being nerfed.
- First Day Of School
- Refreshing Spring Water
- Tickatus
- Incanters Flow (although it could do without)
- Crabrider
These are just a few that I believe could get nerfed. I’m sure everyone has their own opinions thus my creating this post.
NOTE: I’m looking for mature individuals. No one needs to comment on this post or reply to anyone with negativity. This is just an opinion based question. It’s that simple. Thank you ^.^

I’m gonna go with a modified list from the latest VS podcast:
- Crabrider (2-mana 1/3)
- Mankrik (Mankrik Consume by Hatred down to a 3/7)
- First Day of School (up to 1 mana)
- Refreshing Spring Water (refreshes one mana crystal per spell drawn)
- Hysteria (up to 4 mana)
(The VS folks argued that Incanter’s Flow was the better card, I still think hitting Spell Mage’s draw would have a bigger impact)

My guesses are:
- Incanter’s Flow (3 Mana)
- Crab Rider (1/3 stats)
- Mankirk (enraged has 3/7 stats)
- Conviction (gives +2 attack)
- First Day of School (1 Mana)
It’s confirmed that 2 neutral cards will be nerfed. That’s why I assume mankrik will be nerfed, although I don’t think its necessary.

Crabrider seems like a given seeing as how they said two neutrals and 1 murloc. Goes to 3 health.
Mankrik likely the second neutral; Furious Mankrik health gets lowered; and maybe a mana change on Olgra (although hunter becomes even more irrelevant if Barak can’t draw Olgra).
First Day of School. The best card in the highest winrate class. Maybe only creates neutrals; some of the cross class 1 drops are a little too good in Paladin.
Incanter’s flow. Increases mages winrate by >7% in the mulligan over any other card. It’s just too good.
Not sure about the 5th card. Feels like maybe tickatus just to appease people.

ive read on reddit they wont be hitting RSW this time but theylll keep an eye on it

You hit Incanter’s Flow because it’s 8% higher win rate over RSW in the mulligan and feels horrible to play against it on curve.
Understand that for many people, apparently you included, the flashiness of seeing the RSW turn on the opponent’s side might be more triggering than seeing the opponent do nothing with IF on 2. To me this seems similar to people being triggered by the opponent’s Tickatus turn after they already lost the board to Malicia on the previous turn.
I am personally demoralized when I see IF on 2, precisely because I know that my percentage to win went down harder than if any other card had been played by my opponent.

That’s not why I think RSW should get nerfed (sheesh, give me some credit). As I see it, part of the issue with Mage is not only mana cheating (which they’ve had for a while) but also a particular density of cheap card draw. Having your entire deck reduced by two mana is nice and all, but it doesn’t do jack if all these cheaper spells are stuck in your deck. RSW is particularly egregious in that it is essentially free draw with zero setup, and nerfing it as I suggest means it only really works as such after double Flow. And how often can you double Flow early enough for RSW to stay free in this case?

You’re essentially free draw.
Because I can’t wait to get to you.

I understand you want to kill RSW (has nerfing a 4 mana card by 2 mana will kill it); and thereby hit Spell Mage by requiring them to replace it with another card.
BTW, you do understand that RSW has another full year on Standard after the Spell Mage package rotates? Is it your intention to nerf future Mage archetypes?

Mixed signals here.
Its not a 2 mana nerf on a 4 mana card, but a 2 mana on a 0 mana card, in context.

0 mana? So you can play it on turn 1?
Its not a 2m nerf unless it costs 6 to play.
Fair enough.
It’s a nerf of 2 mana effect on a 4 mana cost card draw.
The last time we saw 2 mana effect nerf on card draw was with Preparation and Raiding Party 2 years ago. That took the best Tier 1 deck to a bottom Tier 2, becoming irrelevant because the Lackey and Hooktusk decks were both better at doing the same sort of game plan.
There’s no reason whatsoever to expect that having the same mana effect nerf on Mage wouldn’t cause the same outcome of replacing the nerfed 2 mana effect with something else.
The difference here is the suggested nerf being on a current year card that’s expected to overlap with future Mage decks after Spell Mage rotates out, whereas RP was a past year card.
Hey, I agree with you on RSW, dont get me wrong.
While it should definitely be on the “watched list” going forward, hitting IF is the better option for now, for both formats.
It just came across as disingenuous to claim 2m nerf to 4m card, all things considered, and well, you know me. Im both bored and busy right now, so went for it

Semantics aside, it is a 0 mana draw 2 due to the utility of the card. No you can’t play it on turn 1, but that doesn’t remove the truth that when it CAN be played, it is effectively a 0 mana draw 2.

Crabrider and Flow for sure.
First day of school very likely.
Possibly Mankrik’s token.
Hand of A’dal.
Hysteria, Raise Dead and Scorpid need a nerf too but I have a feeling devs will leave these problematic cards as they are to plague the ladder.
