Where is the fun?

This game used to bring me so much joy. Handlock, control warrior, freeze mage were my favorite decks, even reno mage and priest were fun later on. But at some point this game stopped being fun and I dont know what happened, maybe its the introduction of discover mechanic, maybe its the cards that win by themselves like shudderwock or sire denathrius, maybe its the fact that HS doesnt feel like it has much to do with WoW anymore. I would love to go back to 2014-15 HS, this game was so much better, just saying.

Take off your heart shaped glasses.

There is a mode for this!

Go go!

While there’s classic I hear it’s utterly dead, unfortunately. :frowning:

Yeah, because classic hearthstone was garbage and no one wants to play it forever.

Strangely that’s what so many players wanted! Goes to show no one knows what they really want huh?

im pretty sure shuderwock depends on the cards you run and play …a lot you can just slap it on any deck and get the same results

Yes it is dead. Bronze level players will match diamond players. It’s boring.

I agree with you. The game has turned into a fiesta of busted cards and free effects.

I think this… phenomenon let’s call it, is inevitable in games like HS.

By games like HS, I mean a game that sees regular updates. Subscription or microtransaction games are the usual culprits since they need to justify that constant fee.

“Buy once and you own it forever” games usually don’t see this… because once you bought the game it doesn’t change so the experience or what is “fun” remains the same no matter how many years have past.

As for why people aren’t satisfied with classic mode, I think that’s an issue of how replayble HS’s gameplay is. Replayability has many factors, and one factor I think that’s holding classic HS back is what type of game it is. It’s a CCG. How replayable a CCG is depends largely on the card library. If the basic+classic set has like ten thousand cards and at least as many viable deck builds, then it may have very high replayablity and they might not have needed to release an expansion for years at a time. But that’s not the case. You can only play with the same classic/basic cards until you basically got bored of the same meta decks.

Contrast this to something like Diablo. You could smash the same dozen demon enemy types or even grind the same boss over and over and not get bored. Diablo’s core gameplay is more of an action game than an RPG. You smash demons. That in and of itself is fun. Heck, what’s the “reward” for smashing demons? Loot. But what’s the loot for? To help you smash demons better.

I could probably go on a lot more on this, but this is a forum, not my own personal blog lololol

Idk man people play chess.

I play Chess. But Chess is infinitely variable. Practically no two games are exactly alike.

Oh yeah? Then go play chess bub.

I do. Not as often as I used to though:)
There was a time when I was a 1600 ranked tournament player.

That’s kinda my point.

As I said, HS is a CCG, and CCGs are usually designed to see regular updates with new cards.

Chess doesn’t get “new pieces” every few months.

A game that doesn’t expect new content to be added in the future has to ensure what finite content it does have will last.

See also poker/playing cards. Finite 52 card set (+jokers). The games you play with them are designed to be really replayable.

Played my share of Poker as well, and you’re right. This game is nowhere as replayable, unless it has new cards.
Having said that, some of the cards they print are ridiculous.

What frustrates me the most is the lack of counterplay, all these cards with random effects create so much variety, that the optimal play is to play your cards and hope for the best. And what is even worse is some of them do pretty much nothing, while others can win you the game on the spot, Primordial Glyph can give you Arcane missiles or Meteor. Yogg-saron can cast 10 spells that will do nothing or 10 spells that will kill your board, fill the opponents board and fill their hand with cards. This is exactly what creates the feeling of the game cheesing you out. And I get that cards like these were always in the game, KJ’s juggles could win/lose the game if it was aggro vs aggro, we had Unstable Portal that could give you Wisp or Dr. Boom, Implosion was also a problem, especially combined with KJ. The difference was there were only a few of them, now I feel like every card is like that. And I like some RNG in HS, Ysera’s Dream cards are an example of a good RNG.

I don’t think its acceptable to arbitrarily hold one game to a higher standard just because updates are “expected.” Personally I haven’t found board games or card games with a standard deck of playing cards to have greater replay value than CCGs, and chess could absolutely be improved upon with regular updates. People are going to look at me like I’m mental for saying that, but that’s the warped power of tradition. The lack of interest in classic HS just shows that the modern game is better.

Poker has been mentioned as well. I believe the big difference with a game like poker is the financial aspect. If you’ve ever played poker without money involved, you’ll be aware how mind-numbingly boring a game it really is. Poker as a game doesn’t have replay value - gambling does.

I thought i’d enjoy Classic, but it becomes too repetitive to fast

I’m not holding any game in a higher standard than another. Quite the opposite in fact. I’m pointing out different games are built differently so they operate by different standards, so it’s fruitless to argue which is “better”. Or in other words it’s apples and oranges (get it? fruitless?)

You personally don’t find those board games and standard deck games more engaging than HS? Good. Other people feel different. That’s also good. There’s no need to compete on who’s “better”. Different strokes for different folks.
