just wondering, and gonna tap myself on the head here cause I asked the question months ago about what 10 cost spells will be in game post rotation
it turns out that only having 2 ten cost things is a bad thing

I would be flatly amazed if they did anything beneficial for mage players.
With this expansion, I feel like they spit on us.
That’s actually not the point of the OP
The point is to nerf tendril decks that way because when they reach tendril number 10, every spell they cast has a 50% to be sunset volley. That’s OTK potential with shudderblock if they managed to stack 10 of them without it.
Decreasing the mana cost from 10 to 9 would do about nothing to help mage anyway.
So; if I understand you correctly, Sunset Volley is another spell that benefits other classes far more than it does mage?
Why am I not surprised?
mage is just spell storage for the real classes.
Yep xD ahhahahahah in this case, that’s exactly what’s going on xD
I despise the decisions (or lack of) that are being made.
I mean mage could take advantage but they don’t have easy ways to duplicate or trigger tendrils.
but yes, I am tired of getting otk’d from tendrils, like 40-60 dmg based on the 50/50 rolls in one turn.
It seems to me that mage doesn’t have easy ways to do anything, while other classes get to use it’s spells for almost no effort, repeatedly.
The bias is becoming blatant.
This just punts the problem for later though.
Are we just going to go a year where good 10 cost spells aren’t allowed because warrior and shaman can abuse tendrils with Brann/shudderblock?
I feel like the fix is just getting rid of these battlecry doublers/triplers.
I feel like its unlikely to be nearly as big of a problem if 1 or more 10 cost spells are added to the pool, with 50% less damage in the late game I don’t think the decks will have nearly the same kill potential then they do atm and control classes are much more likely to survive through a couple tendrils though maybe not yogg saron himself
It depends on what the 10 cost spell does. If it’s something like sunset volley, it increases the damage of the tendril.
It would need to be another card like table flip, which still amps volley because it clears the board for the random damage.
Obviously adding new 10-mana cost spells isn’t happning at least until the mini-set, so not soon enough
Would it just postpone the problem? Maybe.
Did they know this was gonna happen when they were launching this patch? They did. It’s very hard not to predict this when you only have 2 10-mana spells in the whole pool.
So, I’m not sure they wanna fix this. Maybe they feel like that stacking 10 tendrils deserves a reward such as that, as it means sacrificing board control and praying to RNGesus. Dunno what’s in their mind sometimes.
The most robust fix is definitely to make tendrils loop back to 1 like excavate does and buff the sources of them so you get more tendrils.
Failing that, we need blizz to add something like a 10 Mana (self discounting per card played that turn) draw 5, that way someone spamming tendrils might just die.
In the true spirit of yogg. He wouldn’t approve always positive outcomes.
I don’t know, I feel like that would just delete the tendril deck archetype completely. Sounds a bit extreme
You’re risking a lot and losing a lot of tempo to get to the point where you reap a 50% chance for sunset volley and you don’t get to use that chance a lot in one game
I don’t know, that’s just how it feels. It’s a conundrum, one I will not spend any more time thinking about xD
Built a tendril warrior deck yesterday. It sucked. I am not a deck builder lol. I understood some basic things I needed, but today I see a list on hsreplay that looks much more optimized for obtaining and playing more tendrils
My experience with the deck I built yesterday was that the Nostalgic Clown makes a good finisher for Brann warrior if anything happens to Sunset Volley
Try tendril shaman, it’s much stronger, and both are control decks, so it’s not a huge diff
I don’t have the cards for tendril Shaman. That’s the deck I wanted to play based on card reveals, and maybe I’ll craft what I need at some point, but this Warrior deck is almost all older cards that I already have
It won’t cast CNE? I see table flip the other 10 mana spell, which is common so it’s definitely in the pool.
Is it because of the rune thing? Cuz i know I’ve seen tendrils cast legendary spells before (one did today actually, casting wheel of death)
I actually don’t know. I’ve just heard multiple people repeat the pool consists of just those 2 spells, that’s why I’m also saying that.
I don’t think it does because of all the 10 cost spells I’ve seen it cast, it never hit CNE or Orb. I’ve only seen table flip and sunset volley.
There are technically 4 10-cost spells, but it only does 2 of them from what I’ve seen.
Yeah, the Shaman one is like 10x better imo. It’s a control deck and as soon as it hits 10 mana for tendrils (which it does fairly quickly) it’s pretty much game over.
It’s extremely hard to build a board against it because Shaman has a boat load of board clears.
Lightning storm, heal volcano, aftershock, titan, crash of thunder, tumbleweed and of course hexes and hexes and hexes for any big minion. It’s extremely hard to build a board against Shaman.
AND, that’s not counting any of the spells tendrils cast, which they also often wipe the board.
