I thought Unholy was the worst performing and least played of all DKs but I have only seen 1 blood recently and all the others were unholy.
Has a new unholy deck become really popular or something?

Yes. Vicious Syndicate says it’s the best deck in the format (aside from Spell DH) so people are jumping on it. As they do.
It’s also the most vulnerable to control strategies, so that’s cool. If you can keep it off the board, it literally can’t win. In some respects it’s strangely worse than Pure Paladin, Undesd Priest, and Totem Shaman, all of which are much stickier and draw better. But somehow it’s the best deck.
Yeah I have been nonstop fighting them but honestly I struggle more against the other DK decks.
Now that I think about it, it’s probably the “best deck” precisely because popular decks can’t keep it off the board. Those popular decks simultaneously bully the slow strategies that could beat Unholy handily. So Unholy DK doesn’t have to worry much about its natural predators in the grand scheme of this meta. Unholy isn’t played enough to warrant a meta shift, the way Blood DK was just a couple weeks ago.
Same as it always is, someone posts on a website somewhere that a deck is the “best” and suddenly there is a surge in popularity in said deck. It sure isn’t the best, I farm them, but hey I’m just happy to see less bloods and frosts.
The nerfs that stopped blood from finding triple rune cards and the resulting decline in rate of play made room for unholy to rise up. It’s been the strongest of the dks, but suffered from bad match ups into both frost and blood, making it not really viable.
Unholy is DK too. Those nerfs hit both Blood and Unholy.
The truth is that Unholy had room since the expansion dropped. I identified the deck as a future problem more than 2 weeks ago, prior to the announcement of nerfs. Shadow Priest, too. Although really all VS would have to do is actually analyze their own numbers to see the same.
I would say it was the best deck at the time they wrote the report and in that very specific context. It really isn’t the best deck imo and it isn’t even a tier 1 deck precisely because of how easy it is to counter. It can never become a meta dominant deck.
These things tend to happen, the report points at a deck and everyone flocks to it like birds to breadcrumbs. I think the best deck to climb right now (and best deck in general) is spell DH. Miracle rogue is in my (biased) opinion a close second due to its versatile matchup spread and hard counterability. Leaning too heavily in the story the data is telling can lead to questionable claims like unholy is the best deck, and Zacko does tend to err this way sometimes imo.
What is it with you?
Are you implying that people other than you don’t know or understand this fact?
Because the truth of the matter is the nerf to discovering three rune cards didn’t affect unholy in the ways that it hurt blood and, to a lesser extent than blood, frost.
Frost was using triple rune discover to win more. Extra triple runes was a way for blood to survive long enough to win at all.
What does unholy do with them? Plagued grain, grave strength, and Marrowgar.
Very little benefit to more copies of those compared to the effects in frost and blood. It wasn’t even a nerf to unholy and nerfing their competition was a buff to the list.
You and everyone else, genius. It’s the only deck I played the first week after the expansion dropped, but there was too much blood so I dropped it for other things.
Not the person I was replying to.
It is undeniable that not being able to discover Grave Strength or Marrowgar does have an effect. But it very true that the deck is more benefitted by the patch because its worst matchups got hit more significantly. Still, the deck is dead in the water against control, the problem is that control is now less popular than it used to be.
Eh. It doesn’t have a bad matchup against Control Warrior, and it does have bad matchups against Frost DK and Undead Priest. Pretty much, Unholy doesn’t like going against Arthas or Anduin.
To be fair control warrior can’t hardly control anything other than other control decks
… um, what?
… you literally quoted me in your response. How was anyone to know you were talking to someone else?
Are they all regular players or bots? I ask because DK is the class that gets the most bots and they generally just copy and paste whatever deck VS says is the best. I personally think they are all about on the same power level now. It really comes down to who is piloting them and their matches. UDK most likely pulls ahead a little because of all the DH players that they can abuse by making boards that are near impossible to remove and then they get burst down.
