I know it’s just a cash grab but like, why make a choice between paying with runes or real money if you can only get runes with real money? Why make a whole new currency if you can still just pay with regular money? Why make it sound like an alternate option?
I’m not spending money on this either way cause I’m a relatively casual player but it just seems so… unnecessary. Like if you really just want people to spend money just remove gold from battlegrounds, don’t just add a new currency that’s literally just real money. It just doesn’t make any sense.
Sorry if I’m repeating myself, I’m just baffled by how illogical it is.

You must be new to the gacha world, all this is done to bypass the many laws in place against gambling.
There was already Runestones in China for that very reason and we now have many other nations with the same laws .
Its all about money in the end and we need to keep the illusion of surprise mechanics , they cant call it for what it realy is or they losse money.

Seems like a lot more words when you already know the answer.
It’s psychologically-driven emotional manipulation, clouding our judgment so we spend more than we think we are, or think we should.
And it’s the market standard for modern mobile games.

Yup, what Mand said is correct. When you purchase in game currency, you’re more likely to spend it more quickly because it’s easy to not know the amount of said in-game currency.
I know that sounds bizarre, but that’s the business and it’s successful. Slot machines do the same thing. You put in $100 and it comes out on the screen as 10000 credits. When you see 10000 credits, you’re more likely to bet 500 credits then if the machine said $100 and you bet $5.00. This sounds ridiculous, but you’d be SHOCKED how bad people are with math.
It’s a psychological thing that benefits the company in profit.
Now, I’m sure that this also doubles in Hearthstone because it also might allow for Blizzard to bypass gambling laws. “The players aren’t gambling with money, they’re gambling with Runes so it’s technically legal” sort of idea.
