So I know Blizz or whoever said that the median MMR was like 5000.
I would beg to differ because I would bet anyone under 4000 doesn’t really play much but are included in the numbers just like the elite players are rare and get to 10k.
I’m willing to bet the median is closer to 7000 if you only count those of us who played at least 100 games per season.
The metrics are often screwed by casual players that come and go, while the legend may only be 2%, you have to make a distinction that active playerbase is at the top.
Getting to legend in HS isn’t that difficult and most former players can do it with some patience
I would say anyone with 7500 just knows the fundamentals and has an idea of the meta, the only difference at 9000+ is that those people probably make 5% less mistakes than you do
Out of the data collected by HSReplay — meaning, players who have the combat odds software installed — the median tends to be around 6000. A big chunk of this population, something like 20-25%, lives just above the 6k rank floor, in the 6000-6200 range. They’ve gotten past all the participation trophy ratings and are hard stuck on the last floor.
It’s important to understand that BGs rating is NOT the same thing as MMR. MMR is a hidden variable used to measure skill for matchmaking purposes — it literally stands for matchmaking rating. If you go 8th when you’re at 6000 BGs rating, your rating won’t decrease because of the floor, but your MMR will decrease.
Assuming that the players playing with the tracker software on PC are a little more serious, on average, than the average BGs player, including the barely-players, then the actual median BGs rating being around 5k seems legit. I’m inclined to believe this “Blizz or whoever” of yours.
If we only count players who play 100+ games of BGs then the median is almost certainly somewhere in that 6000-6200 blob.
Edit: checking HSReplay BGs section shows that this isn’t the case right now. New season. But what I described above has been the pattern for seasons that are more than a couple weeks old. If you don’t believe me, wait a month and check HSR then.
I beg to differ. Getting out of silver has been next to impossible this season. Been hard stuck at gaining 1 star and losing it and losing another 3 or 4 matches before I can gain a star again on Silver 5.
Reaching legend is difficult, just maybe not for you.
As for BGs… Ive been at a 4k floor/ceiling this new season. Game is just ungodly OP opponents with trinkets Im never offered. Ever. can barely even reach turn 7 now before the 15 dmg per turn starts and by 3 turns of that in a row im out of the match.

At first I was wondering if you have a source, but it must be true by deduction, because there are rank floors like in constructed; well unless they are dumb and the rank floors also floor the MMR; but that’d be really dumb design.

So, how would a player know what their mmr is in this game?
I imagine plenty would be curious.

I’m assuming we are talking about BG’s. It’s far less than 6K because most players never even reach 6K in a BG season.
I think the last time Blizzard said something about this it was like 4K-4.5K was a rough average.

This makes the most sense to me . Lots of my in game friends hover around 4500.
It’s so evil, that they announce they hide the true rating of the players(also in Standard); they try to fool them they are better than they are; it’s purely psychological manipulation. If I was making an open source card game that would be the first thing to reveal to players.
While that’s probably technically true, about half of players make 6k by the end of a season. And it might not be true.
What’s the source? That sounds correct only if they play somewhat regularly.
I doubt if you count even 1 game per season you get that number.
