Freeze Shaman as in WOTLK Freeze Shaman that was so badly designed it didn’t even work the way that it was supposed to. Like the deck just didn’t make sense as a gameplay experience.
Modern Freeze Mage is/was just a heavily board based deck that was too passive to win games.
Who, other than salty people in social media, called Freeze Mage uninteractive?
And when you say “taken away”, what does that mean? Because rotation affects every class, and archetypes are “taken away” every year from all 10 classes.
If I recall correctly, I believe the developers had said that they were planning on releasing freeze shaman earlier but that the design space was limited and it wasn’t interactive enough.
I don’t want to participate in merely speculative memories but I think they referred to mage as the first iteration of that mistake.
They did say it, on more than one occasion.
They were basically parroting the complaints from social media.
I don’t recall ever insinuating that you are a liar.
Kindly return the favor.
They keep printing uninteractive trash and giving classes tools that erase the classes’ vulnerabilities because they can’t analyze and build a meta to save their lives.
Everything annoying about this game stems from lolrandom wincon generators, overtuned cards that are counter productive to “play around” and combo that is too easy to assemble.
Lately combo has been too easy due to overabundant card draw for example. A freaking blind man can play combo decks nowadays.
Honestly the game needs a stat squish. At some point, reduce the stats on all cards by 50%>. Hell, maybe do a 20% reduction every expansion and then they won’t have to try so hard to make new cards interesting.
That’s literally what he said isn’t it. Mage should have the same cards they had 18 years ago. And the other classes should all get new planets or even nebulae.
We’re going to try, you wry bastard but not before I had my sleep for the day.
((Icicle is the most unique spell added in this lot, dealing two damage to a minion and drawing a card if it’s Frozen. For the Mage Spell replacing Ice Block , the developers explored a few different freeze options, mainly tinkering around with the effects of Snap Freeze and Freezing Potion. “It’s a pretty simple card that can kill a Knife Juggler, we didn’t want it to be weak,” Donais said.
The Freeze mechanic is among Hearthstone’s strongest, which means the development team has to be very particular about which cards they give it to. “We like to not have reusable Freezes that you can’t use turn after turn,” Donais said.
The team also discusses multi-target freezes like Blizzard or Cone of Cold before implementing them into the card game. “They just slow the game down, it’s not very fun when you play minions and spend tons of mana on them and they just spam Frost Nova,” Donais said. “Then you’re just sad and sitting there.”
Simplicity and practically were key when curating this collection of cards, but the same rules don’t always apply to Hearthstone expansions. Flashy cards with unique effects pull players in, with the whole goal to convince them to buy more card packs. The latest expansion, The Boomsday Project has cards that combine like Voltron, alter how the game is played or that even create brand new decks.))
A snippet from an article in Newsweek - it doesn’t use the word “uninteractive” because it’s not actually a word - but it does get damn close to that notion. It has been said about the freeze mage and the mechanic itself. Dean parrots this notion on freeze shaman a few years later in an AMA but doesn’t mention the mage.
The stance may be different now but a developer HAS said it.
That is literally not what I said at all.
But I’ll make myself clear:
If Freeze/Stall decks are too good, and too "uninteractive’ for Mage,
then that rule should apply to every class.
Period.
…no? What are you even talking about. I’m saying Freeze Shaman was an archetype that didn’t even have a working deck in WOTLK. Freeze Mage and Deathrattle Rogue have working decks, they’re just not great in the current meta. (Actually I think Deathrattle Rogue is fine)
What the hell would that accomplish? Stats have remained consistent over the course of the game’s entire run. A 4 mana 4/5 is still a well stated minion.
It’s card effects, removal and card draw and synergy and to a lesser extent quests that have gotten out of control.
Which last year did a lot to reduce. With Year of the Phoenix rotating and a new core set, they can reduce it even more. We don’t really have especially broken board clears anymore, discover is going to be reduced significantly (at least for priest, mage will still have a fair bit of discover). Efficient card draw and card generation are going to be reduced a lot (cram session, swindle, backdraft all going away). No more brain freeze, maybe no more drain soul.
