What is manathrist?

anyone know how this new word manathrist is going to work? i cannot find any thread about it for the new expansion or we just going have to play blind and experiment?

The card does xtra stuff if u have the total mana value that is on the card text.

It’s another way to take your money.
Shiny new keyword.

What Kamikaze said is the answer.

If you want the exact words from the keyword’s tooltip (also viewable in the card gallery), they are:

Manathirst (X)
A bonus if you have X mana crystals

So, if you take Conjured Arrow as an example:

Rare · Spell · March of the Lich King · Deal 2 damage to a minion. Manathirst (6): Draw that many cards.

The spell will always do damage to a minion. But it only draws cards if you have at least 6 total mana.

Quest Hunter is going to be extremely fun to fight against… yay…

That’s the fear I have. Quest Hunter might be coming back stronger.

I’m scared in Wild. The insane draws of spells.

lol but on a serious note, it’s a way to powercreep and have cards that are traditionally useless late game be less useless.

Previously seen in The Boomsday Project where the Omega mechanic was basically Manathirst (10), and Forged in the Barrens, with the (Rank 1) (Rank 2) (Rank 3) spells upgrading at 5 and 10 mana respectively.

Basically, its two cards. From your example, 2 damage isn’t a lot late in the game. I don’t think it is worth to wait to pay 8 mana for an unknown amount of cards. I usually have a full hand near the end of a game. It’s probably better as a quick game.

ARe you forgetting about the spell damage cards hunter is getting?

It doesn’t say draw two cards, it says “that many” as in spell damage can make it draw many more than two.

"Spotted the Priest player"

Sorry, I wanted to use that meme at least once. Hunter generally doesn’t have a full hand on turn 6+, it’s mostly topdeck mode or 1-2 cards, so drawing 6 cards for 2 mana by turn 6+ would be much appreciated - it would make a (probably) not game-deciding “deal 2 damage” into an uber Sprint and still leave 4 Mana.

You don’t pay extra for manathirst, you just have to have that total amount of mana.

So, in the case of the Arrow, it costs 2 either way, but if it’s round 6+ it also draws.

Then its only 4 manathirst, players still have to pay the 2 mana to draw the card. Then you only have 4 left. Unless, manathirst includes the original mana cost. Its still to early to tell.

Manathirst doesn’t care about the amount of mana you spend on playing the card.

The only thing that matters is the total number of mana crystals you currently have, whether those crystals are full or empty.

My dude you do realize every CCG in existance literally relies on new mechanics and expansions right? It’s ridiculous to be as adverse to change as you are in a genre all about change. It’s like why of all genres would you pick this one if you hate constant expansion? That said manathirst is the upgrade mechanic with more variability in when a card upgrades. Very boring imo.

I don’t think manathirst works that way, but I could be wrong.

My understanding, and someone will surely correct me if I am wrong, is that manathirst is only about how many mana crystals are available to you when you play the card - not how much the card costs.

So if you only have 5 mana crystals when you play the conjured arrow it will do two damage and nothing else while subtracting two mana from your five.

If you have six mana, it will do two damage AND draw two cards, while only taking two of your six mana.

So its based on crystals, not mana? And unless you have cards that give you crystals. Its pretty much based on rounds.

I was just poking fun frog man. And I don’t like the keyword either.
It’s gonna’ be stupid in Wild.

I gotcha lol. Yeah the keyword is the least interesting thing about this expansion by far. I don’t know how you deal with wild lol.

So, it don’t use the total mana. You have some left over. That seems better. Hs should have given it echo also.
