Had a year or so out of the game and I’ve come back to DK being added. (Didn’t they say new classes were too hard to balance?).
Anyway. Is it worth buying? I’ve heard you absolutely have to buy the bundle to play the class.
Not bothered about the current meta to be honest, more interested in the overall playstyle. I don’t play aggro at all. Haven’t in 10 years of Hearthstone. Control or Combo all the way.
Is the class fun? Does it have fun mechanics so far?
I hated DH when it first launched as it was pure aggro but EVEN DH got a crazy fun combo deck at some point (although the win rate was about 30%… I still enjoyed it).
Played against a few DKs as control warlock and they don’t seem to be up to too much but I have seen some pretty crazy board clears etc.
DK was overpowered at Festival of Legends launch. Then mid expansion, they had a patch really nerf the entire class: Discover effects were banned from finding triple rune cards. So the strongest cards the class had to offer were suddenly no longer available to get extra copies of.
The mini set for FoL came out, and other classes got enough tools for DK popularity to wind down.
Now we’re in the Titans expansion. DK is the second lowest win rate class of this expansion. Popularity is still there, but the overall power is pretty tame compared to all the other classes.
What is the main playstyle of the deck leaning towards? Control? Aggro? Combo?
Is it fun to play?
Not really bothered about current meta as everything will be balanced eventually but it’s rare that a class with all base aggro cards and support (Hunter for example) will ever change so much
Frost: Leans towards burn (direct spell damage).
Unholy: Leans towards board based aggro, with a theme of fast board flooding.
Blood: Leans towards control, with a theme of self healing.
Pure frost has options to play either a board based aggro deck with spell damage finishers, or a pure spell damage burn foregoing the board based minions.
Pure unholy is just board flooding aggro. They have a Bloodlust type spell to push for lethal.
Pure Blood is just control. They hardly have a win condition, it just raises its max hp and heals to try and grind the opponent’s options out to fatigue. Lots of board wipes, removal, card generation, and healing healing healing.
Cage Head deck is a frost/unholy combo deck that is deathrattle heavy in the early game, and finishes with a board full of 9/9 taunt charges to end games. It can win with early pressure, but it’s primarily a combo deck.
Plague DK is also frost/unholy. It puts Plagues into the opponent’s deck throughout the game that deal damage (+random bonus effect) when drawn. Payoff with some rush giants, 3 damage board wipe, and a guaranteed win if the game goes the distance.
Sounds like I should probably just invest into it and try it myself. I’ve got about 30k games in Hearthstone, it’s not really about the fact I’d have to buy it, just if it’s a waste for me because I’m pretty sure I have about 40 games with DH and Hunter compared to thousands with all the others
DK is a very small investment compared to other classes considering it has no cards predating march of the lich king and you also get most of their best cards for free in the core set.
I would suggest buying the bundle and trying out blood dk for a while since it is currently the most viable rune. Unholy and frost haven’t been good for a few months, plague dk is trash, rainbow dk is trash and other fringe archetypes are trash.
Unholy DK is the strongest apprentice rank climbing deck for literal new players. Said deck will probably take you to about platinum rank before it stops being good enough.
Could a greedy DK control deck beat things like Warlock? I’ve just hit legend with Control Warlock and I think I’ve been beaten a few times by DKs (not often though).
I assume it would also get farmed by Priests?
Weird that DK has no good meta decks, isn’t it really new? When did it launch?
DH was busted for about 2 years after launch (although I’m not asking for a repeat of that).
I’ve noticed that the meta is very aggro/tempo focussed at the moment with Hunter, Rogue etc at the top. Can DK just not keep up?
It’s complicated but in general it was release underpowered and after some buffs together with the march of the lich king mini set it got bonkers.
Then people grew bored and demmanded nerf after nerf.
Reality is that devs did fail in providing good mixed decks while the triple rune ones are the extreme of their spectrum.
So when they did stop support for those decks to give mixed runes support all decks did fail at once.
Either for lack of update in the case of triple rune decks or for lack of decent base as the case of decks like plague DK(2 Frost ,1 unholy).
My guess is they will give plague a lot of support with the miniset, as it has a diamond legendary and is clearly a direction they want to take for the class.
The deck is, at best, like Tier 4. So maybe a few synergy pieces could get it to a playable state.
