What are winstreak rules? In the new ranked

I am a bit confused about new ranked system.

I stopped getting winstreak at Diamond 5. But I saw a streamer get winstreak all the way to Legend, though he had star bonus 1 higher than I did. (I started at 10 stars, while he started at 11)

Also on some discord server I saw a person saying that he stopped getting winstreak at platinum 5.

Do you just stop getting winstreaks once you run out of star bonus?

There are two different bonuses that you are confusing here.

Win streaks give you double the number of stars you would normally have gotten when you win 3 or more games in a row. Those stop at Diamond 5.

But the bonus star multiplier (your 10 stars, his 11 stars) increase the number of stars you get for any win. And those only stop when your multiplier drops to 1. So, they can continue until Legend if you start with a multiplier of 11.

More specifically, a Legend player will have a star multiplier of 2 at Diamond 5 and above, which looks like a win streak bonus but isn’t.

Yes you are right, should have rewatched the VOD. indeed he got 2 stars per win, but when he got 3 in a row, there was no winstreak bonus… My memories just were incorrect. And the guy with Platinum probably confused Diamond for Platinum…

This is NOT necessarily true. A player who reaches legend rank will have a minimum of a x10 star bonus. With a x10 star bonus at bronze, one will not have a x2 star bonus at Diamond 5 … it would only be 1.

In order to have a x2 star bonus at rank Diamond 5, you must start the season with an x11 star bonus… and in order to start with an x11 star bonus, you must have finished the previous season with a high enough MMR (match making rating). This is usually accomplished by achieving “high legend” (whatever that means).

I did read once where someone got an x11 star bonus, but only achieved Diamond 1 the previous season… so it is supposedly possible to get that x11 star bonus without reaching legend rank.

That’s because star bonus is determined by MMR, with ranks providing a floor function granting minimum star bonuses regardless of MMR.

You’re correct that I was unspecific about 10 vs 11 star bonus, but that wasn’t the point.
