Hit Legend a few days ago on US. To be fair, usually I play on the EU first but for some reason this time I did it in reverse.
Hit Legend in first few days with Secret Hunter at ~75% Winrate and my rank when I hit legend was around 1400 as far as I can remember.
Just hit Legend on EU and my rank is 1212? 67% WR (57-28).
This is like 3-4 days I think since I hit on US and every single time I’ve ever hit legend, I’ve always been FAR lower on the EU ladder than US.
Has Europe lost big numbers or something? Anywhere to check the data?

I think you misremember on the US front. If you go to the official Leaderboards right now it lists the top 1281 in EU Standard but only the top 905 in US Standard. Still only the 4th of the month.

To be fair I did literally hit it after about 10 beers, logged off and started climbing on EU.
I’m actually quite proud of myself and ashamed at the same time…

Where do you check this? I’ve never even bothered. Thought it only showed the top 100 or something on the stuff they announce.
Yeah, to be honest I don’t do much on the US account. I’m UK, I hit legend on both and then abandon US. I usually abandon EU too haha. Cool to see my name up there though I like that.
Just messing about with Pure Paladin on EU now, trying to work it out. Feels like Mech Rogue but stronger.
Now you can see how I have a private chuckle when people post that they’re top Legend when they aren’t. (I don’t usually waste time calling them out because alts are a thing, but honestly you could have picked any name on the list.)

Most of the Chinese players moved to the US using VPN’s. There’s a huge influx there now of competitive players. That is probably why there’s so many more in the US now.

I’ve never even known about the list there apart from years ago when they used to publish the top 1000 and I never checked it. I think it’s cool that it’s there though to be fair.
When I played Diablo 3 I used to love the leaderboards, me and my wife would check them all the time, just to see our progress. (we knew we would never hit top numbers).
I have no doubt that many have. But it’s important to understand that the China server had more players than the rest of the world COMBINED. For example, in November of 2020 there were 51002 Standard Legend players on the Chinese server and 46495 Standard Legend players on ALL of the other servers (Americas + Europe + Asia).
If it was actually true that most of the Chinese players moved to other servers, we would have seen the number of Legend players more than double sometime between November of last year (when announced) and January of this year (when executed). We did see a large increase in December 2022, but even if we assume that 0% of this increase was due to the release of MotLK, a presumably very popular expansion, then the increase was about 75% from November — from just over 10k Legend Standard players to just over 18k.
Moreover, EU saw almost exactly the same 8k increase during the same timeframe — going from just under 16k to just under 24k. That’s a 50% increase but because we’re talking about “immigration” from the China server, raw numbers are the important factor here. If both servers saw an equal population increase then there’s no reason to believe that they preferred one server over the other.
In short, the evidence provides absolutely no evidence for your claim and essentially disproves it. “Most of the Chinese players moved to the US using VPNs” is fake news. The vast majority, at least two thirds and more likely 90+%, didn’t move at all, and they didn’t move to the US server significantly more than to any other. Maybe slightly more than the others.
