Well bought, I concede

Playing free is fun until you hit the wall wherein you are passively encouraged buy cards or tickets and the frustrations mount.
Yes, you can read some very helpful guides to aid in the free game.
Be prepared for a loooong grind.
Fortunately, you get points for losing.
I have reached level 55 the above way.
You can play for free but you will be a small rung for the consumers.

It takes time to settle in as a new/returning player.
But you have very strong cheap cards across each set, that a deck like this:

Ele Burn

Class: Mage

Format: Standard

Year of the Phoenix

2x (1) Arcane Missiles

2x (1) Elemental Allies

2x (1) Lab Partner

2x (1) Primordial Studies

2x (1) Violet Spellwing

1x (1) Wand Thief

2x (2) Arcane Explosion

2x (2) Confection Cyclone

2x (2) Cram Session

2x (2) Frostbolt

2x (2) Imprisoned Phoenix

2x (2) Mana Reservoir

2x (3) Firebrand

2x (3) Gyreworm

2x (4) Fireball

1x (7) Mask of C’Thun

To use this deck, copy it to your clipboard and create a new deck in Hearthstone

Is more than viable to win games. (even past Diamond 5)

Granted, this is not the easiest deck to play, but total dust cost is 1180 - only 4 rares in the deck.

There are many other budget builds out there, this is just one.

Thank you for replying.
The above was not a complaint.
More a heads up for new free players.
Mage is the least interesting of the heroes for me although they seem to beat me more than others.
I will keep playing for free until it’s not fun .

the fact you can play for free at all is a courtesy. you shouldn’t expect to be on totally equal footing as a brand new f2p account vs someone who has played and paid for many years. it’s irrational at best to expect that.

You’re right.
I tried this game for free expecting nothing.
Again, not a complaint.
A warning for those free less patient players.
I treat this game as a solitaire game. Win now and again, mostly lose.

this account has existed for like 8 hours total. i haven’t been playing the whole time. look at the legendaries i’ve gotten so far. one even golden so it’s essentially a free legendary of my choice. also notice that i don’t have every free card for every class unlocked. i have like half. then look at how many epics and rares i have. i’ve opened about 12 packs so far. my highest guy right now is level 8 and i’m still in the noob area and haven’t picked the freebie deck yet. it’s not that you’re not getting cards. you’re not understanding the proper way to play them together and are blaming the game for trying to force you into paying. it’s not. you can hit legend with face hunter which is almost entirely cheap cards. no legendaries at all. it’s a learn to play issue. not a game issue.

guess you’re right, I can’t even get your link to work
I concede
edit/I rescind my original post.
Ok, I’ve been trying to understand why I am failing.
Part of the problem is a lot of those guides for free playing are out of date.
Also I often face c’thun? cards. Are they available?
I’ve gone as far as I can fiscally with all modes and solo games.
Is levelling and the monthly arena the only way left to get new decks? / edit

Yeah, most of them are, unfortunately. However, some things will still be the same, try your best to find that information in those old guides. Hearthstone is a frequently changing game.

the c’thun card is trash. the new one anyway. it’s not good at all and is not why you’re not winning. i got one for free as a reward on the rewards track and i haven’t even put it in a deck yet tbh. it’s just not good. what is it you’re having issues understanding? i’m a new player myself. but i have a history of gaming in general and understand meta gaming better than you do. if you’d like you can add me to your friends list and i can explain some of the basics to you so you have a better understanding of what you should be doing. you’re not quoting me so i am not getting pinged that you’re responding to me. if you want me to get a notification you’re talking to me hit “reply” and type in what pops up.

my battle tag is scorched#1714 if you want to add me.

to add me open the the guy with a + on your battle net that’s below your name/portrait at the top and copy and paste my battle tag and hit send request. it’ll send me the request and then i can accept it and we can talk. i’m not sure how to do it on mobile but that’s how you do it on pc.

Thank you.
sent (I hope)

I got it! I’ll be on a bit tomorrow so if you see me send me a message.

I’ve been verified by hsreplay can’t find “options” in menus

It’s pay to win, you have to accept that. But note that even Starcraft pros have sub 60% win rate against their peers.

It is strange to have to lose if you tend to be good at other video games. You have to divorce your psychology from it or it will lower your testosterone. Yes, playing this game could make you unhealthy, beyond the usual time spent, addiction etc

Classic mode may ameliorate that somewhat. And once you get to higher levels there will be mind games beyond perfecting technique, which may be interesting.

Decks like Big Warrior are very fun for me, and why I play. It will be changing with the new expansion soon, with no guarantees of its effectiveness, so get on it

I have to keep signing up to post in here.
Tried playing on free.
Confused.
Bored.
Frustrated.
Deleted.

I’m playing free as well. Try and stick at it and have fun creating your own decks, even if you lose. If you do your quests every day (and weekly) and make sure to keep playing in the new expansion, I calculated that by level 400 you will have the max of 20k gold which is 200 packs of the new expansion (or whatever). There will be another mini set (last one cost 2000 gold, very fair price with great cards).

Paying only speeds up the process. You will eventually get ahead of yourself.
