Warlock Starship sucks

Having played it for myself now, I can confirm: Warlock’s starship is bad. Felfire Thrusters in particular holds it back- what should be the lynchpin of the Starship gameplan is simply mediocre in almost every context. It can’t swing the board because it only hits two targets. It can’t be a wincon because it’s just one minion with no deathrattle and can’t hit face.

Felfire Thrusters should either hit all enemy minions so it clears the board or be an “end of turn” effect instead of Spellburst. As it is now, it’s too weak, too slow and too inconsistent to do more than mildly inconvenience your opponent in most contexts.

I was surprised how big the starship can be on turn 5. If you go heart of legion into thrusters into arkonite taunt it ends up being an 8/10 on turn 5 which usually is good enough to stabilize if against aggro or something. Thankfully the starship package is pretty small so you can include the 7 or whatever starship pieces + exodar and then just spend the other 23 cards elsewhere, but its not like the hunter starship where you can build a victory around it…its more of a speedbump on the road to some other win condition.

An 8/10 Taunt on Turn 5 isn’t even that good by today’s standards- and that’s a Clockwork Card Dealer draw against an ideal matchup. Like, I can literally just skip all that Starship-building nonsense and play Back Alley Pact if I want a big Taunt, and it comes out a turn earlier.

Realistically, I’d maybe run Arkonite and that’s it- 6 armor gain is nothing to scoff at. Aside from that, other cards can do what the Warlock Starship does, but better.

i cant think on many “heal back to 30” taunts

This is a nice idea. I doubt it’d make it that much better but it’s a significant buff. Deal damage to all enemy minions would be too much imo tho. Overly effective board clears are a huge problem in hearthstone right now.

I think the problem with Starship Warlock is that it was designed to be a grindy and control type of deck, and there’s too much lethality in the format for that to be effective. Even aggro decks are based on off-board damage now (pirate DH and shaman minions all having charge).

Warlock starship sucks

FTFY.

Haha, yeah, with a dream draw that will rarely happen. You do not judge cards power only by the best case scenario.

I have been running control DK with Arkonites, they will rarely save you against aggro and will never save you against meteorites so they are totally something to scoff at.

I’ve played a Warlock deck with what seems to be its intended playstyle. Ultimately it’s just too much investment for not enough payoff in that kind of deck. Maybe you could use it as an insurance policy against aggro, but that’s it. Other cards (Sargeras, Kil’jaeden) arguably provide more value in a single card than the entire Starship package does.

It’s crazy when you compare the Warlock damage minion with Hunter’s. Hunter is vastly superior and can trigger multiple times. The Warlock one is one and done and can’t even hit face.

I think it needs some help. I feel like it should be 3 mana 3/3 with Spellburst that doesn’t disappear with shadow spells.

Or, make it lifesteal and change the other starship piece to do something different.

You are essentially playing it for this card. I’m not sure i have ever launched it playing control DK.

What are you guys considering Control DK? Minimum Blood Blood?

My DK is centered a lot around my Starships and plays more like a Control deck and I launch my Starship quite often. I think knowing when to launch, even sometimes on turn 5, is really important especially against aggro.

I’m playing Rainbow DK with no Corpsicle and no CNE.

I was merely remarking that the warlock starship is probably one of the only starships where you just go ahead and launch on turn 5, as opposed to something like rogue/hunter/DK which definitely require more turns of development.

But you’re right in your comment that starships suck. Warlock probably only slightly better than druid which are both pretty unplayable.

I have a Rainbow and a BBP control DK. Both of them play Arkonite and Suffocate. the double blood has one Suffocate in ETC since i have access to solid board removal in that deck already.

I feel like there’s a good Frost DK right on the verge of being good but it’s just a tad too slow at this point. There’s quite a few decks you could exploit with freezing continuously and going face.

The meta is extremely greedy right now. I’m playing 2 unconventional cards right now that really plays well with Starships and other stuff people are playing. Cube and Cover Artist. It’s wrecking all the other greedy decks and really doubles up on the starship against aggro. I’m also using the Deathgrowl Amalgam combos and Deathgrowl really eats a lot of aggro decks up.

I’m doing the same in Paladin when i switch to playing some hand buff. I’m playing Relentless Worg. Just 1 buff on it makes it an amazing early game drop against aggro decks with the fully healing all that buffed health.

I dropped a Cube into that priest armor deck to make more Arkonites faster. I feel like that new Cube is going to be ugly at rotation.

Yes sir.

And keep in mind, if you Cube something and transfer Amalgam DR to it, the cube always remembers the minion it ate.

It’s making it so people can’t keep a minion alive on the board vs Starship DK or else they get mega punished.

Losing Deathgrowl on rotation is really going to hurt DK though but the Cube still works wonders. Launch + Cube can be nasty.

You are making some gross cubes let me tell you.

The fact you used to be a control priest enjoyer and now you’re doing this kind of stuff on DK doesn’t surprise me tho lol. Seems like devs decided that everything that used to be priest things are dk things from now on.

I know a poster that should update their catch phrase. It’s Greed DK now!!

I am considering a DK to be control if it plays in a control style: survivability with removal. BB or BBB fits the bill best but you can certainly play BUF as control, no sweat.

Playing my BBU with Starship I launch very often, sometimes multiple times per game. I had a game against a druid where I ended up launching 4 or 5 times and twice of those were the starships stolen from Druid :stuck_out_tongue: Opponent had over 300 armor at one point but big homies of Kil’jaeden ground him to dust anyway.

Well, I don’t know about that. I have been conceding against Priest for about a year because it’s almost impossible to outgreed Priest as they have all of their cards plus they can have the best of your cards too. It’s one of those matchups where even if I win I feel filthy for having played that game

If you curve and cube a 4 mana defense crystal on 5 it’s absolutely brutal. Your starship gets so big so fast.

When the entire meta is playing mega massive greed (see Hunter Starship for example) you can really wreck them. If you can’t beat 'em, join 'em right?
