vS Data Reaper Report #249

“Death Knight kinda sucks” lol

Too many classes. No design space left at all.

Remember when they predicted DK as #1, that plaguespreader and infectious ghoul would suck and were some of the worst cards of the expansion?

Lol how far we’ve come.

Very interesting that DK is the most popular among all ranks though its tier 3. Then as you get to higher ranks you have people playing more of the tier 1 decks. This tells me that the casual lower rank players are often just playing worse decks and then they complain losing to better decks. Then they blame it on Blizzard for their failure of reading the meta.

It’s not because of bad players, it’s because it’s new and exciting. People will always play the fun new thing. This is also why Renathal sees tons of play - you get to do something in Hearthstone you haven’t been able to do before. As that experience dies down, the play rate will die down.

Renathal play rate is slowly going down DK will slowly go down as well.

Unless they buff it of course, which I imagine they will do.

I think that’s sometimes accurate, but not often enough to make it the norm.

I have played lots of dk because there was a whole launch event around it, I got quests to play it, and it’s fun.

I see both sides of this, though. Many of the players in the lower ranks want to play different things because that’s how they like to play. The reality is their preference for awkward homebrew isn’t viable at most ranks now. They blame power creep, so-called “netdeckers”, blizzard, and lots of other things.

It’s not so much that they fail to read the meta as much as they despise the concept of meta and reject it.

I think the core issue is they over estimate their ability to construct decks, honestly. They aren’t nearly as good at deck building as they think they are.

The good builders aren’t here complaining.

Edit: Looking at the report Frost DK control is better than Blood, which was my experience and why I have been playing frost. Nice to see that I didn’t just make that up in my head, hahahaha.

Not altogether surprising, Frost has insanely better draw and can discover blood survival anyway.

Yes to all of this. Frankly, I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a meta for a while after I started playing Hearthstone. I had a meager collection and usually just played what the auto-complete gave me, sometimes swapping out cards but usually not having any idea what cards were good and why. And I honestly had a lot of fun with it until I met too many players who were playing the meta. I still wish my janky homebrew reno dragon mage could win more in wild, but I accept that it’s just fun for me and not something that can win most games.

God I hate how after every vs report the bless priests come out in full force, nerf that toxic deck already… Or better yet delete the priest class and replace it with dk.

But everyone plays it for like a day then realizes how boring it is even if it’s winning, so they go back to something else. At least, that’s what I did

dunno if the “full force” of bless priests has ever gone past 10% if at all. even at top legend it doesn´t seem to appeal to too many people.

other than that i don´t get why blood is the one popular DK deck even at the top, Frost(Burn) seems the only one that has a real game in the meta. Blood mostly just rolls over and dies.

Also i think Thiefrogue got heavily nerfed with only 20% playrate, they´ll nuke rogue to unplayablity again. Alongside DH hopefully.

And the report clearly proves anyone wrong trying to talk paladin up the last few days. That´s why waiting for VS is worth it over HS stats.

And the D1-4 bracket is showing that Druid is still luring about if the top dogs get killed, i donßt know how they will ever get out of the mess they made with the rampant manacheating.

Bingo. LOL Nerf it for all that I care, it’s so dang boring.

My friend was talking about why that deck isn’t played and he said that it’s so unpopular because it is a paladin deck in disguise.

Priest mains would die before they would like a paladin playstyle. He said it was similar enough to librams to be as boring as they were.

I don’t find this to be true at all. I main Priest, and my second classes are Paladin and Warlock. Paladin and Priest play control a lot alike.

So you were playing lots of libram paladin in the day? Interesting.

Wasn’t there a point where it was like the most powerful deck in the format but played very little relative to power? Similar to priest right now?

I mean, I don’t see the similarities between buffing minions to gain the board and stealing, removing, silencing, ressurection of the dead, mind control, and taking the opponent to fatigue, but it you think priest plays like paladins, I will take your word for it.

Yeah.

I don’t recall 100%. Marcoscongas will remember this for sure. I played both though, even though Control Priest sucked.

Both look to control the board either with removal or minions and then dump a big fat giant board full of stats to overwhelm you. With Paladin it might be buffs and with Priest it’s with rezzing.

Are you talking about Libram Paladin being super busted?

You are looking at Barrens release. “Hey Loser”.

But without looking I can’t remember if they nerfed Flinger in the first or second balance patch.

I don’t recall it being nerfed right away, I think it took a bit for them to acknowledge the Libram Paladin / Penflinger combo was a bit too much.

But again, my memory sucks when it comes to metas.

They nerfed Sword of the Fallen and Deck of Lunacy first. Maybe First Day of School also (50/50).

I don’t remember if the Watchposts were first or second.

Maybe it was the second patch for Flinger.

While they noted that Pure Paladin is good now (if you play it aggro & not control), they didn’t even mention Silver Hand Recruit. I plugged in some of the new one drops into a Quest Paladin, without much thought & no neutrals, & played a couple of games in Casual with it.

I don’t think it will get me from Diamond to Legend, but it does work & is kind of fun to play. I think I will tinker some more & see if I can make a real deck out of it. I’ll test it in Casual before trying it in Standard.
