I’ve tried the Lich King’s frost armor, Vardent’s Ice Lance, and Jaina’s Water Elemental, currently the only 3 on-demand freeze abilities in the game. None advanced this task. I have not spent all that time to try the Cold Snap Death Blow.
Please fix.
And yes I used all of Varden’s skills, so the usual “alternate skills” work around does not affect this.

Still bugged, impossible to complete in a day. Done at least 30 freezes now and have “2/30”. Relaunching/restarting does nothing.

Yeah, I tried this and almost no freezes are counting. I even tried just Varden’s freeze and only freezing each enemy once. 10/30, and slowly progressing. I do not know which enemies count.
Still bugged. Should have hit my 20, was at 11/20. Did another battle and froze enemies 10 times, reached 12/20. Another battle with 5 freezes, still at 12/20. Disappointed because I lucked into her boon that lets her freeze a target and its neighbors, but it wasn’t counting them.
I’m starting to think it’s only counting them as frozen if they LOSE AN ACTION as a result of being frozen. But since most methods of purposefully freezing enemies are understandably slow, that doesn’t happen against most trash encounters.
Edit: Thinking back on it, I was certainly freezing the slowest enemies, so they were missing their actions and still not counting.
I know this doesn’t really help, but it does mean it affects players differently: this task worked completely as expected for me.
can confirm it works with Varden’s abilities Cold Snap and Ice Lance.
Seems not to work with other freeze abilities like Water Elemental from Jaina and Freezing Touch from Zar’Jira
The trick is to get one merc down where your second ability on Varden will kill them (thereby freezing any other minions). It’s tricky to keep your team alive, keep enough of the opposing team high enough health and get one down to “killable with freeze” - this is a tough one.
