Updated Free Deck for New and Returning Players - Stormwind

The decks awarded to new and returning players will be updated when United in Stormwind launches. Players who have been away for 120 or more days will be granted a deck upon login. New players will receive the deck once they are eligible.

In order to claim their deck, new players will need to:

  • complete the tutorial and the Starter Quest quest chain;
  • graduate from the New Player Ranks (Ranks 40-1); and,
  • return to the main menu.

It is possible that you may not see the deck in your deck list if you did not have an open deck slot when you chose your free Class Deck. You will still receive all the expansion cards from that deck (Core Set cards must be earned by levelling your account, but they are unlocked very quickly). If you would like to delete one of your existing decks, you can then navigate back to this page and use our deck list. From here, copy the deck code and build a new deck, using that code.

New and returning player decks are limited to one per account. A returning player is defined as one who has not logged into Hearthstone for 120 or more consecutive days.

A broken Mordresh deck that doesnt work not even tier 4 material thats what you give to people that pick Mage?
Ouch i know theres already many Mage players but thats dirty for newcomers that like the class …

Does the deck have the components to be competitive come UiS if cards are switched around a little bit?

No way theres no support for it , i saw Kibler trying to make it work(a far better player than anyone here) and it as a disaster.

to be fair, it´s hard to make any mage archetype work atm, it does not get much better than tier 3 and handing them spellmage would just be irritating for everyone.

And who is to blame for that??
If anything it should be Freeze Mage turn but they actually made it even worse than any other archetype Mage already had(a tall order but they did it).

Same old thing, release a bunch of incomplete archetypes that dont get any support down the line and nerf anything that makes it to tier 2 (Spell Mage).

How similar to the current meta Shaman is that deck? At least that one should be competitive going into the next expansion.

The only good Mage archetype is No Minion mage and that isn’t expensive (enough) so that isn’t a good option for this.

Not really very close to any of the Shaman decks currently used, but does give you a few key cards.

It’s probably the least-bad of the decks, and definitely gives you the most tools to make a legitimate meta deck, but this is definitely not the meta deck.

These are clearly not meant to be competitive decks though, just a “we’ll get you started” decks.

This update on the free apprenticeship decks went through almost a week ago. I sadly didnt know it because there was no announcement and chose the deck based on old info since I expected that the change would be happening today and received cards I had crafted a day before to support the ones I was expecting to pickup from the Forged in Barrens free deck. Maybe this announcement should have been made last week before the change instead of after.

I’m pretty sure the point of these free decks isn’t to give people a competitive deck. If it was, it wouldn’t be just mage who has issues with what is given. And if it was about
competing on the meta, why bother with 10 decks each with a different class? They could have just reduced to the top 3, whatever class they may be, even if it’s the same class 3 times (say, 3 paladin decks for the Barrens)

Another thing is that people could like a class/deck for reasons other than being competitive.

Yet another thing is that new players might be literally new to card games, so they might still be losing a lot even if mage was performing well. Not that they might even care. Not everyone jumps into the game with the goal of placing high in ranks. Some people just play to collect cards, to mess with meme decks, some might even end up liking BGs more, etc

More or less correct. The New and Returning Players decks are more about something that help players catch up with their collection and offer something that is “playable” (ie. better than a basic deck, but not necessarily top tier).

Do we know when they’ll be releasing new premade decks for sale?

The Battleready Decks in Barrens were available a couple of weeks after the expansion release. This gave the devs time to gather data on what was the most reasonable decks to offer as meta relevant for each class.

Thanks, wasn’t sure about how long it might take for that to happen.

I just checked the official announcement and it looks like it was almost exactly 4 weeks after the launch of Barrens.

For someone who have not played for a long, Long time. Whats the best deck to pick out of all these?

For me its Hunter its by far the most beginner friendly of the bunch and you can actualy get wins with it.

Ok thanks for the replay

Did anyone else not receive the option to pick a deck although they were offline longer than 120 days?

The “helpful” support team send me here to report a bug about the issue
