Unfun and 100% rng based

I hit leggy every month but I cant even bring myself to play this game anymore. You win or lose by matchups or whoever highroles. the combos are so obvious because of how powerful the cards are there is no thinking involved.

do not pay blizz a cent for anything they do I beg of you. We need good companies making games not for 100% for profit f the consumer business like Blizzard

do not give them a cent!

Gee, just like poker! And gin rummy, bridge, spades, hearts, euchre, crazy 8s, old maid, phase 7, uno, and solitaire!

It’s a conspiracy!

I dislike the game, therefore don’t give them your money.

Go play some Yu-Gi-Oh and come back, you will be glad Hearthstone is the way it is.

If it werent for the randomness/RNG you would have boring and stale meta’s and OTK’s which run wild in Yu-Gi-Oh, the game is literally decided on coin flips (who goes first), thats how bad modern YGO is.

This seems like a false dichotomy where you’re saying a card game is either like HS or YGO.

I’ve never played YGO, but based on your description it sounds like power creep has literally gone off the rails and has not been reigned in. HS has the same problem, but historically, they have at least attempted to deal with power creep by defining the standard format. Lately, power creep has been so bad that standard is a cesspool much like wild (actually wild is less of a cesspool than the inbred standard is right now), but who knows, after a rotation, maybe the power creep will reset and we will be back to more enjoyable metas in standard.

Why can’t YGO do something similar? Simply put the OP long-standing cards in a hall-of-fame or in a wild format, and define a standard format that is balanced independently?

RNG or no RNG has nothing to do with power-creep.

RNG doesn’t just keep games fresh, it takes away player agency when it is too high. Every card game has RNG in the form of card draw.

It’s the dose that makes the poison. Whether RNG is a poison or a cure depends very much on the dosage. Right now HS is heavily leaning into making RNG poison their game, their dosage is way to high.

I am pretty frustrated with the RNG play right now, too.

They have already made some nerfs to some of it, but it’s still just more than I like.

I think RNG is what makes Hearthstone better. I will also note that Hearthstone is a Digital Card Game where as YGO is a physical BUT lets use “Master Duel” as an example, even though its a digital format, it still takes its notes/cards/banlists from the TCG/OCG.

Basically if something is dominating, its going to stay that way until months when a new banlist is updated. Meanwhile Hearthstone allows for “patches” which can fix problem cards in a matter of week(s). looking at you shockspitter

After playing TCG’s for years I personally find the curated randomness and unpredictability of Hearthstone refreshing. And what better way to keep things fair by making them random for everyone.

Gptta hard disagree with ya.

I am okay with some rng, but not with the amount we have now where a lot of games are determined with nobplayer agency with cards like rune of archmage and evolve stuff and the occasional highroll off of jackpot

Too many cards do too many powerful things, highly boosting RNG reward/punishment. The Discover mechanic is a classic example of the game being out of control. Because so many high leverage cards exist, you’re almost guaranteed a high leverage card everytime you discover.

The game is totally broken and at least 40 percent of the library would need to be HOF’d to even have a shot at rebalancing.

“High rolls”, as we call them, are more often than not, game over for the player on the (seemingly) losing side, this much is true.

Now, arguably playing RNG (in the manner I assume you are on the receiving end) is skill oriented. From contemplating the board state, what’s in your hand (and how many cards are in your hand), likewise in your opponent’s, when they were drawn (cards held onto for some time are often essential cards to their overall plan) and what may be in your opponent’s deck, likewise within yours. This is all done and taken into consideration when deciding to choose the right card(s) best fit for the situation after considering those factors and the options given to them (which are often a bust anyway).

The “randomness” you perceive is far less random than you might intuitively think.

Just a thought to consider.

From someone who spends a lot on games. I refuse to give team 5 a cent since the start of mercenaries where I bought like 20 packs (lol). Clown dev team don’t deserve it.
