Two General Questions to Players

  • If any, how many Hearthstone matches do you estimate you play daily?
  • When entering a match, do you ‘Greetings’ your opponent? If not, why?

I Greet mostly in part test if they botting or not

and how maybe I play around 6-12 per day depending on how often i run into fun kill classes (mage, hunter or Priest)

Several - several, several. Probably around a dozen matches a day. Some BGs when I want just stupid play to waste 15-20 mins where virtually no thinking is needed, but mostly ladder messing around with one of several decks.

I am afforded the opportunity to play between meetings, work, homework. I practically live at my computer (moreso now that I’ve been recovering from shoulder surgery - in another several months, I can get back to being more involved with remodeling my house  When I get back to being mobile and using my arm, I will drop back down to maybe a couple of games every couple of days (hit legend, then do quests throughout the month is about it).

I don’t usually greet or emote a player. I may heavily emote a player who emotes me any of the several untimed WORTHLESS emotes that I think everyone agrees is just egregious at this point in the life of HS, but usually - I don’t emote.

I may return a “well played” if it seems legit (or similar - like a greeting).

For the most part, I believe the emote system is good intent with exceptionally tone-deaf and ignorant execution. In the spirit of my opinion, I don’t normally use emotes.

Coincidentally, I just had a game with a shaman who thought he won the game. Full board, got me to 1 hp, put out 2 legendary spell dmg minions already AND pulled the generated random. Two turns later, I thank them as I deliver lethal to his face. Every turn (and at least they played quickly) was about 5 emotes from them. Adding no value to the game, and honestly creating just another distraction for me to ignore while I think about what I need to do after therapy today… then boom. I won.

edit How about you, Kill?

After a Legend climb i only do enouth matchs to complete my dailys it depends on my win/losse rate, for 2nd question no the first thing i do in every match is to squelch my opponent( i has become a reflex by now been doing it for years).

I play between 3 and 6 matches a day, depending on circumstances.
I never emote. They are easily misinterpreted and should have an auto squelch imo.

One theory I’ve read here is that if auto-squelch existed, it would give players less incentive to purchase alternative heroes because their emotes wouldn’t be seen nearly as often. Emotes being a big part of an alternative hero, it makes some sense.

Interesting. Might have guessed it was tied to profits.

We have to remember, this is all tied to profits. But, hey, that’s how businesses work, right?

I play until I earn my quest reward and then I spend it all on arena.

Life is busy right now and the joy of the game hasn’t been there for me. Lately it’s been a few matches every few days just to complete quests. When I’m really into it I’ll play a couple a day and then 20+ on Saturday and Sunday.

No, but if you say hi I’ll say it back. I’d rather have auto-squelch, though. Emote spamming is annoying as hell.

Few games of HS, a few games of BG, but atm I am on the break. No, I rarely greet my opponents. I used to do it back in the days, but now, no. I don’t add friends. I usually auto-squelch. It’s like second nature to me. Most people on the internet behave like a**holes and especially in the games because they are trying to overcome their frustrations. I do not need their negativity in my life.

Emotes could have been a cool feature.

I’ve always thought that each emote category should have at least 3 different emotes to choose from. For example, “Hello” would have 3 options (Hello, What’s Up, Good Day Mate). Something like that. And of course each hero would have different options from other heroes.

This would allow people to customize emotes to a certain degree, make them more to your personality. There could even be quests to earn further emotes to add to your collection.

I play between 0-15 matches per day.

Arround 3-5 during week . In weekend i can go up to 40 sometimes .
I do great ppl . I like those quotes .

  1. 0-1 games per day, usually 0.
  2. If they greet, I squelch.

Enough to complete whatever my daily quests are, maybe a few more if I’m on a roll.

Nope. I begin each match by right clicking on my opponent’s portrait and clicking “squelch”. I do this so much I’ve even tried to squelch single player opponents on multiple occasions. I don’t do any emotes in game because I assume everyone would do what I do so emoting is a waste of time. I find emotes distracting and can influence how I’ll play so I always turn them off. I’m one of those players who has been hoping and praying for auto-squelch for ages now to no avail.

The only time I use emotes is in single player and even then it’s pretty rare

I’m not shocked that people who are triggered by everything would turn off emotes, I am shocked how much it matters to so many people.

I usually say well played at the end of the game or wow when something unlucky or uninspiring happens - say a big rng card super low rolls, “Amazing!” is pretty funny.

I have never been bothered by emotes, and if someone actually spams them (which is super rare) I turn them off.

I usually just respond if someone greets me, but don’t really care what they do tbh.

I play several games daily, and when I get tired I jump to another game, aside from that I think it would be great if everyone greets their opponents, and then a little threat appears to keep the rest of the game quiet.
