Turbulus buff is a very strange idea

Those Ragnaros skins don’t sell themselves

I fully appreciate the amount of time it takes for them to design, draw and program the cards of a set.

I am not complaining for the sake of it.

I realize they have an idea of how a deck should play. These are the cards it needs to work.

We will release 6 of them in the spring, 15 of them in the summer and the rest in the fall and it will be the blow out deck of the year.

The question i always ask: did they test? A lot of the time, 80 out of 100 people in the public looking at the cards for the first time will name the single most broken card in the whole set within 20 seconds. They explain it’s broken because of the interaction of 1 or 2 core cards that are very popular and always get involved with these problems.

How did they not see it 8 months ago.

I fully respect their work. I question their design choices and the creation of a problem that was never there.

I acknowledge that turbulus is probably an under powered card. However i lay the blame on the tourist package not being very relevant.

Conman is a very good example of that. It originally said " previously: "Battlecry: Replay the last card you’ve played from another class. (thank you card wiki).

now it says: Battlecry: Replay the last card you’ve played from a non-Rogue class. (thank you wiki)

BECAUSE THE ROGUE CARDS ARE SO UNDERPOWERED COMPARED TO THE AVERAGE PALADIN etc etc that no one would want to use it the way it was originally written.

Dear god, lets not give rogue any useful cards - they could a gasp meta tyrant.

(druid says, hold my bear)

likewise hunter cards are pretty lacking - i do really like the coin taunt one though -
when it comes to integrating with the shaman package except maybe one or 2 of them.

So, generally, i see no point in buffing turbulus when the game has other problems it could be helped with
(there there priest, no has forgotten you, poor priest)
(zeddy in the background - get away from him - don’t encourage him - off with you)

otherwise you don’t get it and im done with you.

This just shows that the major factor in nerfs and buffs is sales and not balance.

Exactly because they’re designed together is that the approach is wrong.

A good mini set should be about using your same old cards in different ways enabled by that small kit.

For this expansion a superior example would be Just giving each class a Second tourist.

Mini sets should force you to revision How you play the main set.
Not to Just include New cards in old decks.

They probably need to improve their balancing methods. I wonder if they run simulation or formulation software. I don’t have my hopes up about their technical integrity at balancing because they have admitted that sometimes they do card changes purely for “Lore”/aesthetics reasons and they have stated they start balancing based on “sentiment”(they should never start on sentiment (because the sentiment is very often very dumb)).

It’s not really a question of “Has it been tested”. It’s more about how much impact does it have being played to a game and if it’s a legendary? They sprinkle a set with a couple of these cards in order to get the casual players to spend to get them. It’s a game designed to get them to chase the meta. Nothing really new in the gaming market. GW is master at this.

I can appreciate that. I certainly have become very aware of it over the past few months and this update completely confirmed it for me. It certainly answers the various questions i have been asking in the forums this week.
I’ve been playing hearthstone for awhile - but it never seemed this apparent to me before.

so there it is. That is the final nail in the coffin that answers the question of why does blizzard balance this card game the way they do.

I certainly feel a sense of relief understanding why appeals to the dev team are a bit of an empty echo chamber,

it does make me feel a bit sad, but i do feel satisfied.

Elemental shaman is sort of lurking in the shadows… its not a great deck now because of people being able to play stuff like turn 4 tsunami or turn 6 renos … but the early game elementals have got a lot better this past expansion and they added pretty good finishers in lamplighter/zephyrs to go along with the two 7 drop elementals.

Not sure what the change is with turbulus and I doubt with the mana cheating how it is now a curvestone tribal deck will be able to break free and thrive in cheap removalstone, but its getting there.

I would however have to imagine the change to turbulus had nothing to do with trying to promote elemental shaman and more to do as everyone said some financial/business aspect.

Oh snap it’s game on. Turbulus goes to 3. That is a 100% keep now on the mulligan for an insane curve.

It’s Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime

Called it spot on

With one mini-set Tourist getting toned down, we wanted to give the other one some help so that players can try another fun vacation destination and make the most of what it has to offer.

Its just crazy they buffed a tourist that was already pretty good. Now its like a baby keleseth xD the turn 3 turbulus into turn 4- 2 5/6 taunts is gonna be the new thing people complain about lol

Their are other tourists that could have used some love. Turbulus was already better than Maestra and others… why not use the tourist reasoning to buff a few other tourists that are struggling to have any impact?

You guys make it sound like Turbulus is really good. It’s barely better than snapdragon. You guys do remember snapdragon right? It was almost completely ignored. Dragon druid used it at one point before the deck got changed and hunter may have used it in a couple decks but that’s literally it. It’s really not THAT amazing by itself. The tourism aspect is a bigger deal.

Rare · Minion · Voyage to the Sunken City · Battlecry: Give all Battlecry minions in your deck +1/+1.
Legendary · Minion · Perils in Paradise · Hunter Tourist. Battlecry: Give +1/+1 to all other Battlecry minions in your hand, deck, and battlefield.

It is very good when it affects the board and hand. Those additions are a massive improvements and shouldn’t be overlooked. Giving the board that buff alone is better than in deck. In hand is better than in deck. So this is doubly better in both aspects.

Especially so in a meta where triple battlecry things can happen.

why do you think shudderblock would make turbulkus broken?

the way is see it is a terrible idea to wait until that late to play it

turbulus isnt that good and is a card you want to play as soon as you can not after turn 6!

there are only 2 ways to get rid of a board full of high statted minions.

reno

and blood dk

(technically paladin but they don’t usually run those tech cards when they can get by without it)

Flamestrike, a card which most people don’t play with, is a great benchmark for when a card will or will not stick to the board on turn 7+

shudderblock turbulis makes your whole deck sticky for the rest of the game.

in addition to the mana discounted wish upon a star.

Yay!

Edit: this will probably bring the meta back to rainbow sif mage in a few iterations. Oh i’m looking forward to that.

Stats is specifically how you beat BSM. Adding more stats to minions i am already going to play just makes it so much easier. Making it come down on a better curve like turn 3 is superior then doing it on 4 when you have better plays.

Sure if you don’t see the card early it’s a wash and probably doesn’t do much for the game. When it comes down on curve though it’s going to be a game changer in most matches.

You would rather play it on 3, but if you draw it late game, you can still get value by making it a baby bloodlust
