Having access to premium HSReplay, I wanted to share with you today’s meta. These statistics are collected from the last 24 hours and from the Americas region.
It’s really interesting how the win rates flip on a lot of these decks from Diamond to Legend. Deathrattle Demon Hunter goes from tier 3 to tier 1, Elemental Shaman goes from tier 4(!) to tier 1! Wow!
No, the most played deck in Diamond 1-4 is Aggro Druid at 9.56% to 20.63%. Pirate Warrior is also very popular at 12.26% to 13.67%. And then there’s QM at 4.47% to 13.79% at its highest popularity in Diamond 1-4. It looks like QM is played less the higher in rank you look.
I am seeing something slightly different myself, but it does say on mine “updated 35 minutes ago.” Since what I’m seeing is close, that’s basically confirming that this is what HSReplay premium reports.
However, I am not confirming the validity of these tier lists at all. They’re close to worthless.
No, I am not saying HSReplay is crap or wrong, but I am saying that the “past 1 day” filter is… well, very misleading. It’s not that difficult for a deck that normally doesn’t perform well to have a single collective good day and jump to the top of the tier list. Like Aggro Shadow Priest in the T1KL. I’ve had HSReplay premium for a while now, I’ve spent a lot of time pulling data from it, and I can tell you with confidence that with the “past 1 day” filter you will see a radically different tier list every single day guaranteed. The “past 3 days” filter is a lot more reliable and my personal recommendation, although there are arguments for the even more stable “past 7 days.”
It took me a while of having the service to catch onto this and I think I’ve made some bad posts like this too so don’t feel bad about it.
bad winrate below Diamond (I guess some people can’t figure out even basic combo)
high Tier 2 but disproportionately popular (usually second most popular) at Diamond, never Tier 1
and waffling between low Tier 2 and high Tier 3 in Legend, with low popularity in T1KL
for WEEKS now. You could look at HSReplay statistics forever and you would never see justification to nerf Quest Mage. The only “reason” to nerf it is that the social media whiners simply will not shut up about it.
I’ve thought on this a lot and the more I ponder what should be done, the less certain I am that any course is right. If they don’t do anything, then thousands of players feel they’re being ignored. If they nerf lightly, in an attempt to appease the crowd, the crowd might see the nerf as light and continue to demand more. If they nerf Quest Mage into the ground, that’s a huge injustice to a deck whose winrate didn’t justify it.
I mean, this might sound crazy, but I’m starting to think that the best solution would have been for a blizzard dev to get on social media and say very publicly “I love you all but lol no that’s crazy, we’re not going to be nerfing quest Mage, here’s some stats about winrate, you can continue complaining all you want but the deck isn’t OP.” I mean, a doctor should generally listen to his patients and I definitely don’t want to say patients shouldn’t report symptoms, but dealing with hypochondriacs has to be different.
OH WAIT
I got it.
If I was Blizzard, I would do what I said above PLUS I would announce that we’re banning the Mage Quest in Standard completely for two weeks. This ban would not be because the Quest deserves it, but to prove to you all definitively that the decks you think would be good if only Quest Mage wasn’t in the format would in fact still be terrible so please find another scapegoat.
Im on board with this lol, proving people wrong would be so worth it.
I would pay good money just to see their faces when their logic crumbles to dust.
Actually, on second thought I’d play it a bit closer to the chest and say “banned until further notice, we’re not offering dust refund yet but we will if we decide to make the change permanent.” I would want people to try to come up with new archetypes, and motivation for that might be low if I promised two weeks.
