Seriously. Who buys this stuff? $90 and you get 3 ink wash cards? 3?!
Not me! Last time I bought something for this game was the Reno Jackson expansion!
I agree these prices are totally ***ked up!
People are obviously buying them, as I’ve seen them a few times already
That’s just crazy to me. I grew up poor so the idea of spending 90 dollars on digital copies of 3 cards I already have is foreign.
It’s crazy for 2 reasons:
-
They price them higher than new released high end games. 3 cards with art cost more than those games and all their content. Nuts.
-
Some people buy them, sure. But why is Blizzard selling them for so high and not lower? If 1000 people buy them at $90 but 50,000 people would buy them at $3, why are they not testing that to see what the maximum price for profit would be? They’ve NEVER even tried this they just assume $90 is the best price for profit. Seems absolutely insane to me that this idea hasn’t occurred to them and they’ve never tried.
I bet $1,000 they would make more money overall if they priced these at a few bucks a piece. I know I’d buy them if they were $1 or $2 each.
It’s exclusivity, people will be tempted to buy because they know they’re one of the “few” who can afford it, so they feel special
But this would imply that Blizzard cares more about people’s feeling of exclusivity rather than profit.
I find that hard to believe. Profit is everything to Blizzard.
I think it has more to do with them not taking a chance and putting the Stick of Greed +5 down for a minute and see what happens.
They’d never do that. Never have and probably never will. It boggles the mind.
Assuming they know what they’re doing, it’s perhaps we’re a competitive bunch, that’s the nature of things when it comes to competitive people
They’re more likely to tend to exclusivity
I’m not sure if this is the reason or not, just brainstorming the possibilities, as I’m not so much inclined to assume they don’t know what they’re doing
Why would you ever open your wallet for nu-bliz products?
It might be they know what they are doing but are helpless to change it because they need their shareholders to be happy and they tell their shareholders “we have single cards that take $100 to make once and we sell them for $60 whereas other games dedicate millions of $ to make the same money. We’re selling games inside of games for little to no cost!” and the shareholders eat it up.
Hey man, someone had to believe in the NFT-s when they first showed up and shook up the markets xDD
Even now, after all the crap it has caused, it’s still out there
I’m afraid we might be among the very people who are prone to take those seriously, unaware blissfully that we’re in the minority
That would explain a lot of things, honestly
Ahem, they’re intended to be luxurious items, that’s why they cost so much. The fact that not everybody has them makes them more valuable to the people who have them. It’s how whales identify other whales.
Believe it or not, there are people with lots of money that splurge on crap. You maybe heard of those who spent tens of thousands on games like Clash of Clans or other similar ones.
They say that these money whales represent 1-2% from any player base.
Well… Blizzard is targeting those whales. Obsessed with heaving all their signature cards.
So in other words… whatever ridiculous crap you see in their store… its not for you or me.
Be glad that they’re charging real money for cosmetics and not locking actual cards behind paywalls
If there weren’t Whales out there to buy this stuff they wouldn’t keep making it. The pricing model you see in the shop is 100% targeted at Mobile players who have poor impulse control.
It’s the same reason Diablo Immortal got a better micro transaction event at the same time Diablo 4 season 8 dropped.
If the price is lowered, the whales won’t get to feel superior anymore. It’s similar to how some companies structure their product lines—they offer high-end goods to cater to premium customers, while also selling lower-cost options to profit from everyone else.
i have no idea
but im glad they do
The higher the price the more rare they are and thus the more they are worth.
And they have to be rare/worth a lot to justify the high price.
Now mull that over for a bit.
This is not about maximizing sales. This is about creating a product category and niche.
The 50k people who would be willing to spend 3$ they can spend it on something else in the store instead. There is already products for these type of consumer.
Selling these for 3$ would not increase overall sales. It would increase sales of this product,at the cost of some other sales (would it not devalue gold and diamond cards to some extend for example. Potentially hurting the sales coming from that?). By pricing these at 90$ they can capture sales they wouldnt otherwise capture. While still capturing all the people spending 3 somewhere else in the store (at least thats the idea i asume).
It checks out Nice analysis, I’m lowkey ashamed it wasn’t mine
