Oops! I mentioned it in the other thread and forgot to transfer that thought here.
I like Antonidas. Unfortunately they’re competing with one another at the 8 mana slot. Andy pushes your Mordresh turn back by at least one. More if you haven’t hit 10 damage and aren’t pinging on 8. you also can’t play him for several turns after Mordresh without burning a hot streak on the same turn as Mordresh.
You could probably play Antonidas in deck even with Mordresh if you played with hot streaks. That would keep the chain going into 8 and give you yet another big play on 9, which i think a deck like this would need.
The thing that comes into my mind first is a sort of fire spell mage, which would then also include antonidas. Other ideas are a midrange deck in combination with some freeze effects and floecaster. It has to be some sort of hybrid deck as there is only 4 hero power related cards so they should be used in combination with another strategy.
Obvious for consideration besides the things mentioned above are then spellmage but i am leaning towards a fire spell mage deck the most for now. Complementary for firemage might then be elementals?
This is 18 cards. Completing it with an elemental package makes kinda sense as there is some synergy between elementals and firespells. The disadvantage is that the ellemental package does look kinda weak in general
-sanctum chandler (might allow for skipping ai completely)
-grand finale
-fireworks elemental
-confection cyclone
-kindling elemental
-gyreworm
This would make 30 cards but the elemental package does look kinda weak.
Another complement to the fire package could be frost spells which also could make some sort of midrange deck.
@below:ah yes i forgot firesale, that one probably should definitely be in there.
Ignite might be a weak inclusion as you most likely wont come close to drawing your whole deck with a somewhat midrange deck and the first 2 casts of ignite are somewhat weak and low value.
Yeah I think a fire/ hero power Mage could be fun, Antonidas and Mordresh give you a couple of big finishers, Firesale feels like a good inclusion, a good board clear with tradeable if you don’t need it, Fireball is always good, the 1 mana 2 dmg twinspell also looks a good inclusion , alongside all the hero power synergy cards and wandmaker, that’s a good start.
Tbh HP mage will not be a thing. It relies on finding one card to deal 2/3/4 damage for 2 mana. If you dont find wildfire, the deck is not working properly.
It needs more support cards, it should have received hunter quest (in different form) and it could have been really interesting. Or other support cards for this style of deck. But miniset was for freeze (iirc) and new expansion ignored it too.
So yeah, it needs 1-2 more cards to function properly, buffs are cool, but not enough.
If there was a way to make Anton and Mord cheaper this could perform fast enough to compete with the already turbo decks we have. To bad potion of illusion is so pricey or it could be a great card. Might be worth it just to copy reckless apprentice or other valuable minions.
I’d skip AI with or without Chandler. You’re a tempo deck. You don’t want to skip turn 3.
I like Starscryer instead. Even Dungeoneer is better than AI IMO. Sure, you aren’t going to get the 1/1s but you’re guaranteed a spell and a body. If you don’t go overboard on spells then running both of them will thin your deck rapidly, get your hero power upgraded ASAP, and let you start doing your thing.
I don’t think the weapon is worth it. You’ve got 30 mana worth of spells in the deck plus whatever you discover. Also, they’re mostly pretty small ones already. Finally, it’s competing with a bunch of other 2-drops. You’d pretty much always want to wandmaker, orb, ignite, or combo a wand thief on 2 over playing a weapon which can’t help you for at least two turns.
Is Manafeeder Panthera where this deck wants to be? You’re not trying to draw your whole deck are you? 4 mana for 2/3 draw 1 ping 2-3 is not a fantastic turn.
I think Firebrand is a good idea (need something to do on 3), and if you include Sanctum Chandler then definitely include Hot Streak.
This is a very, very, very rough draft. My thinking is that you want to be aggressive. Mordresh isn’t going to win the game on his own so you need to have been pushing damage all along. The curve is intentionally low to let you fit in as many pings and discovers as possible.
2x (1) First Flame: I’d much rather have a minion here to keep the spell count to a minimum, but First Flame is good control and pairs well with Wand Thief.
2x (1) Tour Guide
2x (1) Wand Thief
2x (1) Wildfire
2x (2) Manafeeder Panthera
2x (2) Pandaren Importer
2x (2) Runed Orb
2x (2) Starscryer
2x (2) Wandmaker
2x (3) Firebrand: There’s only 8 effective spells you could use with the Firebrand, so maybe -1 Firebrand, +1 Fireball
2x (3) Frostweave Dungeoneer
1x (3) Rustrot Viper: Depends on the meta, of course.
2x (4) Fire Sale
1x (4) Fireball: I’m thinking Varden might be good here instead. It depends on what the meta looks like and if you need tempo vs. aggro or finishers vs. control.
2x (4) Reckless Apprentice
1x (5) Taelen Fordring: I love Taelen in this. He tutors Mordresh, of course. Or, if you’ve already go the big guy, he’ll pull an apprentice instead. Taelen on 5, apprentice on 6 or 7, and you’ve got a really, really good chance of having Mordresh primed and ready to go by 8.
Play tested my deck above for 4 games under current build. Ultimate failure.
Drew 3 Face Hunters and then a Quest Lock. I came close to beating one of the Hunters but got brutalized by the other 3. Also, when Fallen Hero falls so does his buff to spell power. I guess I was assuming it was permanent. Especially with that I don’t really see a way forward with my version of the deck. Also, what they are calling the Ping Mage (spell power damage) … well I am not sure I see a way forward with it unless the base spell damage was increased too. (to at least 2 and possibly 3)
I see Panthera as more of a later-game play than a turn 4 most of the time. You could also bank the discount from a tour Guide for a turn in order to make him more useful. It’s not about drawing the entire deck, but about having things to do alongside pings which also get you to your important stuff faster.
I’m all up for improvements.
I’ll probably end up using whatever Kibler builds anyway.
Taelen makes sense as mordresh and possibly antonidas are your win conditions.
Draw like ai might be skipped completely as you did suggest before. You will also get some value from your hero power so you might get pretty far without having to draw.
I still like ai in general with a midrange deck, obviously you dont want to play it on 3 or keep in mulligan. I do agree the deck needs to be somewhat agressive so that you can indeed finish with mordresh/antonidas
Panthera i think is weak and so is wandmaker (imo the odds to get wildfire are to low). I would not want to play pantera on 2 and later on i probably would rather have ai. Tourguide makes kinda sense.
Varden is a good card in general which is why i also consider including a forst package.
Thinking about my own list above the elemental package simply looks to weak despite the small synergy between elementals and fire spells.
