Theldurin the Lost / Explosive runes bug

Mage had a [explosive runes] secret in play. After playing 4 mana [Theldurin the Lost] he gains immune and attacks all. After he is done attacking he is still has immune but the mage secret triggers hitting theldurin. Since he is immune he takes 0 damage, but your hero incorrectly takes 2 damage when you shouldnt take any because immune should negate all the damage. So the secret it still not fully negated.

The mage secret on the text clearly states ““excess damage hits hero””. If no damage was done, then none should be incorrectly hitting the hero.

Try it out: have a friend play explosive runs, then have another play Theldurin the Lost. You should take no damage but you take 2.

It does the same thing with minions with divine shield
I don’t like it either but it is the intended interaction
Explosive rune sends the amount of damage corresponding to the minion’s health on that minion, and the remaining to the hero, regardless of if the minion actually died

“Excess damage” is based on the primary target’s current health. The damage is separated into two parcels: one parcel equal to health, and one parcel with any leftover damage.

This separation is performed BEFORE the damage is actually dealt. After the damage is parceled, the effect does not know or care how much damage the primary target actually TAKES.

The target might take less damage due to divine shield or immune, or it might take more damage due to Enchanter or Mo’arg Artificer. But that doesn’t matter.

Also a stupid reason leading to explosive rune being unable to kill an astral automaton because the rune deals its damage before the automaton gets buffed

I mean, something has to go first. That’s how effects work.

The automaton is 3/4 in your hand
The buff already happened in your hand
You play it
It enters the board as a 1/2
Explosive rune checks in
Sees the minion as 2 health
Deals 2 to it
Minion has 0 health !
Minion gets buffed
Minion is now 3/2
In what world does that make sens ?

I mean you just perfectly described the order in which the effects take place and interact. So it sounds like you do understand it after all.

I understand how it works
Doesn’t mean it makes sens
