Death Knight is probably the strongest class in the game if we think of it in terms “average power across all ranks”.
They are just extremely powerful at both defense and offense at the same time without being bad at ANYTHING.
Yes they will lose in specific rank metas but in the big picture DK is not bad at any setting.
Or, just play the decks that beat it up well before they can start doing OTK stuff near turn 6. (Paladin and rogue being your best bets. DH also works)
if steamcleaner was in the current meta, it would drastically change things
no more asteroids, plagues, infinite fizzles, cycle rogues etc. quite interesting thought play
I mean, all of those things would still exist, because steamcleaner is bad, and you are almost always better off trying to kill your opponent than trying to deny them shuffling stuff into decks.
Yeah good call. Just win turn 2 before they can do the stupid asteroid and draw and clear and develop because etheral oracle is a fun card.
Have you ever considered your logic is flawed because if it worked like that cycle rogue and asteroid shaman would in fact not see the amount of play they do?
In a really bad way by killing any sort of fun you get from shuffling or copying.
Steam cleaner is bad for standard.
You are mostly racing the shudderblock payoffs being drawn. Shudder on 6, fill deck on 7 and mass draw on 8 is their actual dangerous play.
That’s 2 turns too late to even survive against rogue, or really much of anything else trying to proactively win the game.
It’s very good at killing things that try to stall past that point, but even some of those decks can fully armor out of range of it at times. DK can even run 8 hands if they really want to in order to wipe the stacked asteroids/eruptions.
The deck just isn’t much of a meta problem. Oracle will probably get nerfed because of cycle rogue eventually, which will also take this down with it too.
There’s an 8 mana 8/8 steamcleaner in Standard currently.
same goes for the 2/5 anti secret card in wild, yet it’s almost a standard add on now as there’s just too much shift in one direction at (higher) legend
Or just make it so spells shuffled into the deck don’t scale with spell damage modifiers…and nerf Ethereal (seriously how did this card dodge nerfs?!)
I eat shamans and death knights in the legendary rank for breakfast. They can be easily outplayed and their game is broken. You need to choose “Dark side of the force” “Dark path of the force”. The warlock will help you!
No. It depends on if what it counters is played a lot. It would be DEVASTATING if the meta you’re playing it in has 60% asteroid shamans for example.
When Shopper DH was played by everyone and their mom: the DKs with the freezing weapon were pretty OP,
and that’s not a good example compared to a card that destroys ALL the build up of an asteroiderneer.
I mean sure, tech cards become better when a deck is wildly out of whack in terms of power and play rate, but that would make steamcleaner not bad for a few weeks before nerfs kicked in. Even back when plague DK was everywhere, steamcleaner wasn’t particularly good for countering it.
