So this community is worthless when it comes to battlegrounds advice. All of the pro players won’t really tell you what you need to know as well.
I had been coming here for a while always annoyed because it seemed an impossibility to ever even get to just 7000 rating. Not that it matters right? But as I had said to only get to 6000 or thereabouts takes literally no time if you’re only half good at this mode.
I have just lately finally broken into the 7000 rating and the only way I did it was to just play for 4th. Yes my 1st place out of top 4 finishes is an atrocious 10%, but when you stay low after leveling up your tavern tier to 2 for a little longer than others would have you believe you should do it I’ve vastly improved my ceiling.
Buy 1 minion, level, then trade and buy or however your hero works, buy two, and then buy 2 more with a reroll in there if need be. Don’t be in such a hurry to get to tier 4 so others can stomp you when they will outplay you. I have hardly had a 7th or 8th since going this route. When I do place top 4 and it should have been an outright win I usually am 2nd.
Also, as a match gets right to the end and you could level to 6 for cheap-ish (like 4 gold tops) do it. I have placed 2nd twice because I got my opponent to 1 and would have killed them if not for not leveling and then they had a better bartender turn and came back and beat me.

Similar experience as well. I was always stuck at like 6500. I was always playing for 1st. Try to get a strong tribe asap and gun it.
After going up and down a bit I decided to try something different: Go for stats, look for 3rd or 4th. What has that done for me? 7450 rating. All I do is go a small menagerie package or whatever the tavern offers me. I look what it offers me and just look for stats like the Nzoth spawn, etc. Something, anything, that gets me more average stats on board. Stop trying to make mechs work. Stop trying to go only a specific tribe. Go stats, likely resulting in some mixed minion tribe.
Then, as I’m doing that, something should arise during those stats. For example, maybe I have 1 beast but suddenly Slamma appears and that would give me more board stats. Pick it up. Maybe the next best stat minion now combines with what I have and it forces me into beasts because beasts are the best stat at the time.
That’s literally all I do.
Let that 1st place high roll into 1st place. If they high rolled early, you weren’t going to beat them anyway. Just get stuff to stay alive longer than the others. That’s it.
I might get 1st once out of like 25 games. So what. I’m hitting 4th and 3rd and every once in awhile 2nd, but I’m hitting 3rd and 4th quite consistently. Don’t know how long this strategy will work, but I know it’s good enough to get to around 7500. I can’t complain, I barely feel like I even know what I’m doing.
I still don’t know how to play Elementals. I still don’t know how to play Quilboar. Barely have a grasp on Pirates. I can never build a successful Dragon board. But I’m at 7500. Only because I just go stats. Don’t mind me hitting 2nd place with a Tier 1 minion that’s a 40/40 that literally does nothing for my tribe. It’s there because it helped me secure 2nd and it’s not helping me to get 1st.

Beasts and dragons for me. Ele’s is easy. Just find one of the like 3 minions that helps build elementals. Nomi for example. Murlocs is the card in the hand strat now. Pirates was mega stats + gold, but it does seem a bit nerfed.
Quillboar and naga work amazingly well, but seem a bit more of needing not just one card, but like a whole slew of them for it to actually work.
