Really makes you think this game is not that much about knowledge; there’s not that much to learn if a 16 year old can go to the top of it; it’s about other skills.
It’s about the attitude; about the APM; about the sharpness of mind.

Or maybe 16 year olds are adults and society is being silly acting like everyone should be childish until they’re 21.
At the very least I think it’s a strange kind of ageism to say that it must not require knowledge if a 16 year old can achieve it.
Not sure your point. Firebat was also 16 years old, and the first HS World champ (not qualifier champ). Thinking age ever had anything to do with skill is a you issue. But then again, you are a well renowned troll, so thats to be expected.
Holy cope.
Just accept that a 16-year-old is better than you in a video game.
Can your ego really not handle that?
What guarantees a 16 year old lack knowledge? What an egregious take.
6 months into my 16s i was into med school.
It seems you are talking to the mirror. I implied he has better attitude; I implied he has better APM; I implied he has a sharper mind.
Are you better than him and you got offended he is 1st?
there’s not that much to learn if a 16 year old can go to the top of it
There is tons to learn and that 16 year old has learned it better than you have
I am 166 years old and am still learning!
Okay, Count Dracula.
Or maybe 16 year olds are adults and society is being silly acting like everyone should be childish until they’re 21.
i had a job when i was 16, got a starter car when i got enough money, all that good stuff, then moved out at 18 after i finished high school.
This arrested development of young adults is strange.
I helped several teenagers with sharpening their MtG skills, who went on to be junior champions.
In chess, there is a long list of young Grandmasters, some of who achieved that title at 12 years old. 10 year olds have become Masters.

Both of those games require more skill than HS, so it showcases the mental acuity that 10 to 16 year olds can possess.
Skills and intelligence got nothing to do with age, nor maturity
You can be completely childish and immature and still be skillful and intelligent
Not that Maxie is childish and immature, just saying one doesn’t necessarily mean the other
He actually sounds quite mature, at least compared to most of the boys/men I knew at that age
Hell, he’s probably more mature than 60% of all active posters on this forum
Or maybe 16 year olds are adults and society is being silly acting like everyone should be childish until they’re 21.
That’s cope xD
Sure, there are some, but those are exceptions, rather than rules, caused by trauma (physical or life experiences)
Human brain’s final stage of development is around age 24/25, where the prefrontal cortex thins out and becomes more specialized and active - before that age, personality, self-control and many other aspects of what we call maturity are non-existant - unless, of course, something is changed due to trauma
I’m still more immature than some of the 16-year olds, and I’m 32
But yeah, as I said, skills and intellect got nothing to do with age and maturity
What a ridiculous take. Mozart compose his first opera at 12 years of age. I’m not saying maxie is a prodigy like Mozart was, but when you dedicate enough time and effort to your craft, age doesn’t matter.
He said he played 400 games of miracle rogue in a week before the tournament. That’s some serious preparation. Do you think you have to be 80 years old to play hearthstone. It’s not the US presidency.

eally makes you think this game is not that much about knowledge;
rigged matchmaking, that fight outcome is already decided before even a match starts. This algorithm just give you an illusion that you are in control.
Game plays you.
Or maybe 16 year olds are adults and society is being silly acting like everyone should be childish until they’re 21.
Unironically civilization should have an aptitude test to test if people are actually mature enough for adulthood, I’ve both met mature 16 year olds who definitely would be responsible with say, renting cars (locked to 25+), and I’ve met 30 year olds who shouldn’t be able to drive let alone own a gun.
My 18 year old self would stomp 40 year old me in Starcraft.
And I knew more about the game than I do now.
Age doesn’t matter. Experience matters and that 16 year old spent a ton of time studying and learning the meta they are in and focused on improving.
You implying that there’s not much to learn if a 16 year old can learn it all that fast is a blatant disregard for how much time they invested just to get to that point.
This isn’t just a HS thing. I’ve been playing guitar for 28 years and there are 12 year olds that can play better than me. Does that mean there isn’t much to learn on guitar if a 12 year old can learn it at an extreme pace? Absolutely not.
I agree with most of you on knowledge (as you might have gathered by the likes) (I imply one might be older and still underestimate knowledge-gathering),
but a) some of you take it too far with the “age doesn’t matter at all” because there are also literal toddlers and centenarians,
and also b) nobody mentioned that knowledge-gathering is not independent of the sharpness of mind of the peak ages.
Unironically civilization should have an aptitude test to test if people are actually mature enough for adulthood
I want to agree with you, but I can’t. It’d be a nice thing to have but we wouldn’t be able to have it, such a test would have too much control over lives so its administration would inevitably be corrupted, producing rigged results for control over others. Even if that “control” was as “harmless” as little old ladies wanting to be nice and passing people who shouldn’t be passed.
This doesn’t mean that I think Hearthstone is rigged, because I’d first have to think that Hearthstone is important, and it obviously isn’t.
My 18 year old self would stomp 40 year old me in Starcraft.
And I knew more about the game than I do now.
Sure, 18 year old you probably had a lot more time to dump into Starcraft, and a lot more room in the brain without things like complicated political theories and tax codes.
You implying that there’s not much to learn if a 16 year old can learn it all that fast is a blatant disregard for how much time they invested just to get to that point.
16 year olds (and really, anyone below the age of ~22-26) are not actually fully developed in the brain, and haven’t reached their peak potential.
its administration would inevitably be corrupted,
this is fair, but this type of thinking leads no where–every system inevitably gets corrupted by power-hungry folks (whether that’s for a good cause or not is out of the question), as does the lack of systems.
edit: no disrespect on maxie, he’s a great guy whos both talented and skilled.
