Wild: NONE WILL SURVIVE!
Standard: NONE WILL SURVIVE!
Baku is and will always be an issue card. Just delete it from the game.

I agree is kinda annoying but its a very cool card in my opinion as much as i hate it cos against odd mage i cant put any 2 health minions on board i just wanna rip my hair out but its a very flashy card and i dont believe it will be removed since it does have counters
In Wild I personally see “This Curse Will be Our Strength” (I think that is Genn’s line) a lot more than I see “None Will Survive.”
Post-nerf: Even Warlock/Shaman > Odd Paladin/Warrior/Rogue in terms of both play rate and, taken as a whole, win rate.
But, personally, I don’t think Genn’s as agitating to play against, and doesn’t provide as stale gameplay as Baku.
Genn’s effect makes your hero power support your deck.
Baku is all about your deck supporting your hero power, lol.
Agree on that angle of the two.
Couldn’t agree more.
Dunno about Genn but every wild player will dread Baku until the end of HS - that “Start of game” effect is waaay too insane to not use … especially in Control Warrior and and swarming paladin decks.
I almost never see Baku decks anymore in Wild. I see even way more.
Except for at least now in Wild if you look at the decks using Genn or Baku Genn is better.
Even Warlock. Even Shaman, and Odd Paladin are all about at the same level. I’d argue that the Paladin deck is the worse of the three right now as it most benefits from Kingsbane Aggro Rogue being (probably) the most common deck.
Baku Rogue is still a good deck but is a solid tier 2 deck and not really pushing at the top.
Baku Warrior is a tier 3 deck that is heavily meta dependent just like in Standard. Until this deck gains a real win condition OR and odd cost Dirt Rat it’ll be a niche deck as other Control decks just do the job A LOT better because they have a proactive or inevitable win condition.
Genn’s effect doesn’t make your HP support your deck. It makes your HP so efficient to play every card synergistic with that particular HP that much better (Mountain Giant, Blessing of Kings, Flame Tongue Totem, etc).
The difference between Genn and the Baku effect is that the HP is itself less flashy.
Flashy effects tend to grab the attention and iré of the player base much more than more subdued effects of equal effectiveness and win rates, probably because the flashier it is, the easier it is to pin them down for the cause of losing a game.
As evidenced by the lack of complaints and low play rates about Secret Paladin and Even Shaman (Standard) in spite of their fantastic win rates.
God, I have to wake up. I read “None will survive” and wondered why Salvanas was in standard.
For one that climbed both Wild and standard, my encounters are like odd pally and rogue haven’t been made.
Check out paladin’s win rates in both wild and standard. The higher you climb, the more you’ll see.
From my experience, ranks 1-5 in both modes are fairly infested with paladins, which is usually odd.
Not saying you are wrong, I don’t look up vsreport and believe in exact-rankings if w/r’s are very close since player-choices matter.
Just commenting to say…there really is a Genn deck that is stronger than Wild Odd Paladin? And former Wild Odd Rogue?
Wild Odd Paladin, at least seems, is stronger than any deck in the game…I just don’t understand like how is Even Shaman ever getting on a board with Baku Paladin in the shallow water? I mean Even Warlock’s 8/8s don’t matter vs Baku Paladin either right?
Doesn’t Baku Paladin > Even Sham, Even Lock?
Like there’s no way Baku Paladin can miss a turn-1 dub 1 into HP into HP + 1.
Right?
Baku paladin is stronger than evenlock and even shaman.
Most even shaman decks have no draw, and cannot afford to run draw, on top of Maelstrom Portal for their only AoE. Totems do no compete with recruits, who are guaranteed 1 damage at minimum.
Evenlock does massively better, but is not strictly favored either. The amount of pressure paladins put on board in mere 4 turns is ridiculous.
If you want to look at the Vs Report it shows Even Shaman as favored against Odd Paladin. Maelstorm Portal is an AoE that just gives a huge advantage if you draw it, Devolve messes badly with synergy, and the pure fact is the Shaman is building a board of 3/4, 5/5, 7/7, etc. while the Odd Paladin is building a board of 1/1s or 2/1s until turn 5.
It isn’t as one sided as it was pre-FTT nerf but it is still a favored matchup for Even Shaman. With the current move to including Golakka Crawlers in Even Shaman I wouldn’t be surprised if Even Shaman is once again favored against the entire aggressive archetype playing field.
My experience is that Odd Paladin isn’t that common under r5 in Wild. Exists but isn’t a very common matchup. Between “All Ranks” and “r4 - Legend” on the Vs Report Odd Paladin goes from 3.97% to 6.18% which sounds about right in it’s frequency at r4-Legend based on my experience. It is there but isn’t oppressively there in terms of number of games. By far and away my most common opponent is Kingsbane Aggro Rogue.
