It’s all over the subreddit’s frontpage if you want the source. The excuse is “cut some slack to the Developers”; those are not developers; they are AI operators and Executives hired them.
What?
There’s massive repercussions for using AI art in games, I doubt a company like Blizzard is willing to go into that mire, no matter how much they love extracting money from the husk of human labor.
AFAIK there is a class action against the use of AI art, but I’m not sure what the status of the law suite is.
Edit
Apparently as of Aug 2024 they have won a ruling that indeed artist rights have been violated. The extent is yet undecided.
The wording you are using here is confusing. I doubt HS executives make any decisions to hire x or y person/bussiness to comission art. It’s HS devs/ people in the art department who decide who to commission art to. This is just an artist that uses AI to assist their work. Someone probably didn’t realize the person they comissioned art to was using AI. It’s happening more and more lately.
Let’s see what they have to say about it.
Scrolled through the sub and didn’t find anything. Source?
Kinda crazy if true. i’d say i’d do card art for em for free, but that would be taking away from people that do it for a living instead of only for fun.
Blizz as a whole is a mess no matter who their parent company is at this point lol lost their soul years ago
What do you mean? It was the first post, titled “The Pixel Art Skins are likely AI generated”.
