The Azerite Vein secret triggers before battlecries

Hello,

In a recent game I played against a spell school mage I played the ETC Band Manager into Dirty Rat in order to get the opponents Sif out of the game. The opponent had an Azerite Vein secret on board which activated before the Dirty Rat’s battlecry causing it to miss the Sif and summon the copy created by the secret. I know the uses the “when” wording but I would still expect it to trigger only after the battlecry, am I wrong?

If the secret says “when the enemy does X …”, then it triggers immediately, before the opponent’s action has completed.

If the secret says “after the enemy does X …”, then it triggers after the opponent’s action has completed.
