Thaddius question

I thought I understood how this card worked, but now I’m not so sure. Then again what I just saw may have been a bug I guess. This is what I’m seeking to clarify.

I thought Thaddius was always supposed to discount odd cards on even turns and even cards on odd turns. I was just playing Chad Sludge Lock and my opponent had a Taelan on board on turn 7, which he killed I guess by Mortal Coiling the shield off and then trading into my minion. He then popped off with the combo and his odd cards were discounted even tho it was turn 7. I guess maybe this is a bug that occurs when people kill their own Taelans, but not sure.

Even more confusing tho is that I sent my opponent a friend request afterwards to see if they could explain what happened. My opponent was from Ukraine and his English wasn’t perfect, but he was kind enough to chat to me. He seemed to be saying that for him, Thaddius is always odd on every turn, although it could be that this wasn’t what he meant when he said “It’s always odd” or whatever he said, but he definitely said something like this.

This only applies to Thaddiuses that start in your deck. Any Thaddius that is generated from scratch starts with the base text of the card, which is odd.

It was the Thaddius that started in his deck.

How did it enter play?

He drew it from Taelan and then killed his Amorphous slime to summon it.

Amorphous Slime generates a new copy, not the original. Ukrainian correct, always odd.

Oh wow. A famous streamer said you have to pop off on odd turns if you want even cards discounted and vice versa, so they were wrong and I was misinformed. Thanks for clarifying.

 Oops I worked out the problem soon after my last comment but wanted ot take a nap. Anyway, the thing is that the streamer in question was referring to playing Fire Druid before the nerf, which of course worked quite differently, as the card used to summon Thaddius was Nightshade Bud, which summons the minion itself from your deck, rather than a copy of it, which resets it to odd. Now I understand…
