Takeaways from the Theorycrafting streams?

I have only been able to watch for a short while today. I will catch up as soon as I can. I only saw, to my satisfaction, that pirate rogue seems pretty nuts (toldya!). It was an unreal meta filled with clunky and bad decks, but watching Pocket play it for a short time was enough to confirm my assumptions. That deck looks extremely strong. Maybe a bit slow in the early game. Other quick impressions I had:

  • Spell mage seems underwhelming. Maybe it needs refining. Yogg Box seems bad and extremely RNG. I thought it could cast mage spells only but it’s any class.
  • Spell Druid looks mega bad. I wouldn’t be sure yet to say it’s bad because druid can always come up with something broken tho. But the most auto-build lists are not it.

What are everyone’s first impressions? I wanna read what the general feeling is.

I liked some of the Whizbang decks, rainbow DK especially. Some duds but that’s always the case with random.

Tendril shaman looked super fun too. Probably the actual deck I’ll try to play when I’m not queuing up with Whizbang after rotation

Today on “How to watch people that aren’t supposed to concede but get so mad they do anyway”. We watched multiple DK players playing the buff cards then play Sickly Grimewalker into Darkthorn Quilter. That has got to be the most disgusting combo on top of the Quilter already being so powerful in the buff DK deck.

Followed up by massively buffed Leeroy directly to the face.

I cannot say I’m surprised by this.
I think my only hope is if Standard has a good elemental mage deck.
otherwise I’m out of ranked.
Wild Elemental is fun but I can’t get it to work at diamond. Not broken enough.

How often have you shifted those goalposts in the last week alone?

This is pathological at this point, dude.

On-topic: obligatory, “theorycrafting streams are never representative of the actual metagame.” Needing to have 10 (or is it 15 this time) new cards in your deck cripples optimization.

Watched Kibler play Mech Warrior and get trounced by Dormant Big DH, when we all know that Warriors will just be running Fast-Cycle Odyn with Reno to take dumps on all of our hopes and dreams.

What is wrong with what I just said?
Do you simply take offense to everything I say?
The Wild elemental deck that was built for me is fun, but not really viable in Diamond or higher as best I can tell.
Now I just read that the theorycrafting is weak for mage with Yogg and wisdom ball etc.
So I replied that I hope elemental mage is viable in Standard.

And you chose to be mock offended.
If you dislike everything I write, why not just put me on ignore?
That seems like what most adults would do.

If you go to your post history and count every post in which you threaten to stop playing if something doesn’t happen, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t be able to count all of them during this lifetime.

Don’t take me wrong tho, I am not saying the deck is bad, just that the very little I saw seemed unimpressive, and that I was surprised by how Yogg Box works.

Meatman apparently went something like 60-2 with spell mage and swears it’s the nuts. So maybe it’s actually good.

And that makes me what? Fallible? Human?
I have feet of clay. What a fascinating revelation.
Thank goodness none of you have ever shifted your paradigms in an attempt to find anything in this game rather than the nuclear option of just quitting.
Really. I wish I were as perfect as all of you.

Easy. Just keep those thoughts, which we all know, for yourself.

Your post count is already the highest on this forum or close to be, do you really need to pump it up by copypasting same thing over and over and over again?

Can’t you see that invokes bad feelings in other people?

I’d appreciate if we keep this thread on topic and avoid turning it into yet another cyclical argument. Pretty please.

Dragon Priest with the draw card giants looked really good legendary extra turn is insane.

Rogue looked insane with a bugged sonya that gave a copy of itself if it cost 1, but also seemed heavily reliant on that and toy boat.

Whizbang decks actually looked quite good, especially the Warlock one

I haven’t copy/pasted anything. I speak on what I play, as most players here do, or at least I would assume, and this thread is in part, about mage.
The OP said he didn’t think the deck was very good.
I am an average player. If the deck isn’t good, that means that it is highly unlikely that I will be capable of piloting it to a diamond or higher rank.

So, I am placing you on ignore, and I beseech you to return the courtesy.
If you dislike and disagree with everything I say, and I strongly suspect that you do, then the adult thing to do would be not to interact at all.
Have a good evening, and try not to be too offended that I wished you a good evening. #ignored

My most humble apologies. I won’t post here again since it is clear that I cannot post anything without someone who hates me attacking it.

Don’t worry dude. You do sound a bit like a broken record sometimes but I really don’t mind it, hah.

I’d recommend watching Meatman’s past stream during the theorycrafting event. I reckon he’s been playing a lot of mage and you can get an idea of how the newest stuff looks like in practice. It’s a very fake meta tho, so relative performance in that event is unreliable.

Back on topic, I do think pirate rogue is going to be prime nerf material. It needs a correct list, but it doesn’t seem too hard to find. I didn’t think of using the 2-mana pirate that gains attack by weapon attack, but it’s such a ‘duh’ addition to Goldbeard. I can’t wait to play it.

I’ll look at the video. and the broken record thing? Well, I only play one class so I tend to speak in monotone.
Continue, Sir.

From the Regis video, Khadgar seems like absolute garbage, 5 spells of mirror image lol.
Based on what I’m seeing from the Regis video, I’d give the card a generous 2/5.
And maybe it would get more if they patched it to be actually useful.

I wouldn’t hope too much for this.
But for players who play all classes there will be strong decks.

It’s hard to tell with theorycrafting streams for the most part to see how well most cards will play within the meta as the players must use a minimum of 15 cards from the new set.

I will say a lot of them looked fun. Reddit is filled with a lot of Khadgar’s Ball shinanigans already.

Unfortunately I did not have the time to watch these streams.
Could someone make a list of the decks showed without providing too much detail as to not be a chore.

That would be nice.
