Summon from deck

Does anyone hate this mechanic more than I do?
Summoning from your deck bypasses all interaction.
And yet; I have never seen a thread complaining about it from the people who thought that mage having free spells was “un-interactive”.

Well that’s the whole point of the mechanic.
Taking risks by giving your opponent free tempo, hopping you will get more value out of it
If dirty rat pulls out an 8/8 it’s a huge loss for the rat player, regardless of if the 8/8 had a battlecry

Not mentionning this is a way to prevent a lot of combo decks from existing
If there was nothing in the game to pull cards out of your hand, you could just play a combo deck, ignore the board, stack combo cards in your hand, and every one would played “If I draw faster and play my combo sooner, I win”

We’ve had a meta like this not long ago

I’m not saying that this mechanic is fun. Of course it can be frustrating. But is good for the health of the game, regardless of what the haters (he real ones) will think about it

Dirty Rat is a defensive card and that pulls from hand.
I apologize. I meant to complain about summon from deck. it sucks and should be banned.

Thats a big win for a Priest with 1/1 destroy a minion spell.

Every situation as its good outcomes
I can give you situations where Silverback Patriarch is better than Shimmering Sunfish but that would be irrelevant.

The main idea about what I said remains.
Maybe I should have stated that I was explaining the intended design of the mechanic, not how it is actually used

Well my reply is even more appropriate. Summoning form deck is theorically even worse as your opponent doesn’t even lose a card form its hand

What scenario are you talking about ?

My situation was warlock summoning a 10 cost card from deck.
Absolute garbage.

Oh you meant a player summoning cards from their OWN deck
Well that’s a different story then

I kinda like that. It requires a really strict deck building and is really depending on your draw. It’s also usually slow and can be punishe dby fast decks. I just depend sof the actual balance of things.

I like playing an otk warlock in wild that summons Rivendare and its horsemen from deck, but I despise big priest, even playing it (I liked the old version where you had several big minions)

I don’t. It is the textbook definition of “un-interactive”
Team 5 should be ashamed that they have so little imagination.

Summon from deck is nothing new, we used to have a recruit keyword. The difference now ia it cost alot less mana and tempo to do so and the minions pulled are more specific (summon an undead, a beast trigger and summon a deathrattle).
You used to have to run like a 6 mana 3/3 battlecry summon a minion that cost 8 mana or something. Understatted minion that summons something. Or it had a deathrattle, not battlecry.

No, it isn’t new. And I have always hated it.
And recruit was seriously limited compared to what we have now.
Team 5 has taken a figurative dump on the play experience.

This specific scenario Mall is talking about is indeed a trash style of play. It’s one of the most toxic things in the game. People who don’t play wild likely don’t know what you’re referring to.

It’s a 5 mana minion that destroys a cheated out 9 mana minion to summon your Thaddius. This in turn allows the warlock to play through their entire deck since all their cards are free.

What happens is you summon a massive board, treachery your discard damage minion to your opponent and leave them with zero cards in hand and no way to counterplay.

Imagine Big Priest in wild, but instead of the cheated out summon monster only it instead summons all other minions from their deck immediately AND discards your cards from your own hand. It’s basically a turn 5 OTK and there’s very little counter play.

The change, or “nerf”, to Thaddius has instead created a bunch of other toxic decks to arise because the nerf was actually a buff.

Locks do get more complains recently precisely because of chad/control lock stuff.

Odyn often gets roped in too in the complaints. Odyn allows warrior to turn their armor gain into mage-like burn spells.

Both classes/decks are getting a lot more flak than their meta performance (see also tickatus hate in the past)

Not really. Do those minions have charge or some ability that lets them hit face? Are they pulling off OTKs? If not then you still have a turn to deal with them. And I distinctly remember mages call that an interaction. They be like “there is interaction when we freeze and blow up your board every turn! That’s us interacting with you!”

So thanks for pointing out how it’s actually mages who are hypocrites Mall!

Next, you’ll do the un-interactive thing by going #ignore on me :joy:

You really don’t though. You get to draw 1 card and hope that card is a board wipe. If not, you lose. The combo forces you to discard your entire hand on turn 5. Based on your response, I’m not convinced you’ve seen the deck in question.

Like I said, imagine Big Priest, but instead of just summoning a minion from deck that summons another at end of turn, imagine it summons a minion, which immediately summons their entire deck AND discards your entire hand.

The deck in your question. But I wasn’t responding to you. I was responding to Mall. I didn’t even get to reading your post when I wrote my post above.

Mall kept things really vague at the time of my writing. Even his thread title is so vague that some other guy thought he was talking about dirty rat.

As such, I kept my response vague to the chad/control lock janking stuff. If you want to talk about the thaddius OTK combos that’s more about thaddius than the general “summon from deck” mechanic in Mall’s thread title.

Exactly so, Sir. And thank you for describing it better than I could as I am not familiar with Warlock.

I don’t have the same knowledge that Shy has with other classes.
He described the deck perfectly.
I had never seen it before.

You’re calling it vague, but I think the lack of comprehension looks like vague.

I thought it was only druids that they were facing based on the other post… so odd.

It’s really awful, but it isn’t the mechanic that is the issue it’s the cards using the mechanic to great effect.

I just don’t think that summoned cards have anything to do with interaction.
In the game I played, the opp. used summoners to pull both imprisoned horror and thaddius to the board, essentially for free.
They then swap decks with you using Tony, after stripping their own.
The deck is the least interactive thing I have ever seen, and it all comes down to
cards being summoned from deck.

Summon from deck

Recruit

Summoning from the deck = Shadow Essence in my mind which is why Big priest is so hated now.
