Anyone else feel the current meta is not fun? Since N’zoth was brought back it is simply not fun. N’zoth + Khartut defender is rediculous, especially with how easy it is for so many to make multiple N’zoth , bringing back more defenders.
I am fine with every other card being brought back, even flamwaker, at least that deck is somewhat inconsistent, but the constant boards of N’zoth + Khartut defenders makes the game not fun. It’s a “feels bad” way to lose in my opinion. I rarely make posts on the forums, but it is so not-fun for me, I was wondering if others felt the same. Not really looking forward to another 6 weeks of the current state of this meta.
I’m trying to be impartial here as the entire meta’s evolution and, to a degree, N’Zoth’s ability with Khartut Defender and Convincing Infiltrator has made Hakkar Priest viable but…
Is N’Zoth public enemy #1 of cards I dislike in the current meta? No
Is it healthy for the current meta? Probably not tbh even if I like a deck that runs it a lot. Overall… it is a meta which is revolving around Evolve, Exhaustive Control, and a fringe element of OTK but Evolve is doing a good job of making that a hard thing to play.
The meta will never be perfect, but N’zoth’s ability to create seemingly infinite khartut’s is insane, I can deal with 1 or 2 N’zoths per game (even 3 if thats what a deck is built around but 7+??), reborn heal makes it ridiculous to get through. Unless you run a mirror match, then it’s even, but then you are having about as much fun as control warrior vs. control warrior. Losing is part of the game, but the “feel bad” (as Kibler would put it) makes it not fun. I guess priest can deal with it with their plague, but I Haven’t run into that matchup yet because I don’t play much priest.
I think a month of this event would mix it up for fun, but 2 months is a bit much with cards of the power level like N’zoth.
From a wild perspective its kinda funny because all the cards they added to standard, none of them are used in the tier 1 decks in wild lol.
As for the meta. I’ve read plenty from people who are disliking certain cards in standard format. Not all the cards added but a quick glance you see people hating Evolve, Flamewaker, you dislike N’zoth yourself etc.
I myself am hating wild for my own reasons. An have only 3 games played in standard this season which we’re done for quest needs. Which worked perfectly cause my standard rank is the lowest rank possible.
I firmly believe the biggest problem to this event is the lack of answers to some of the board states. Like how you dislike N’zoths board rez, which Priest basically only has the best answer an Shaman. An the game has such a terrible low number of people playing, you get zero breaks from matchups. You just see people spamming the same broken garbage day in day out in all formats.
The lack of players helped ruin wild for me. As I cannot play ranked without fighting the same decks as causal. Time doesn’t matter, days of the month in the season don’t matter, an its god awful.
I suggest to play Arena for the duel class event. Normally, I wouldn’t suggest this as Arena was also trash. However, I read Blizzard patched some classic cards again with removal so you don’t just instantly lose if you go second which was total BS.
Sorry Standard isnt fun for you. The game is struggling to be fun at all imo. Lackeys were hands down the shttest mechanic added for this entire year. 2020 will demand HS make huge changes. Thats all I will say.
Perhaps try an agro deck? The current event cards are usually late game ones. Either you have them around turn 6 or you don’t. Also speeds up your rank.
N’zoth isn’t a problem when all classes can use it.
Evolve shaman on the other hand… I am at rank 2 versing up to 5 shamans in a row with my mage.
It’s not fun playing a coinflip again and again against shaman
Flamewalker according to rank 40 people ,n’zoth according to rank 20-5 people and evolve according to the people pushing legend ,because I am facing in 30 games, 20 would be shamans.
Just because Flamewanker isn’t destroying the meta (it isn’t) doesn’t mean it’s a healthy card for current mage to have. Mana Wyrm died for the current spell setup, and Flamewanker is a similar card in certain core aspects.
It should be universally accepted, however, that Evolve is the true problem card.
it would have only taken a brief look at wild to realize that adding n’zoth back into standard was a bad idea because of the number of cards that allow you to add him back to your hand or deck. it also wouldn’t have taken much effort to learn that adding evolve back when shaman now has a quest that essentially gives them Brann every turn. It also wouldn’t have taken much effort to learn that adding Thaussrian back in just makes some of these combos even easier to pull off.
the only conclusion is that the hearthstone team just doesn’t give a s***
Because why bother piloting these decks in Wild when hyper aggressive aggros, namely Secret Mage, Odd Rogue and Pally, and Even Shaman will body you up before turn 5. Nzoth is a good card. But again, in a set where seance, khartut defender, infiltrator, mass hysterias, and even brought back light bomb, it is very oppressive in the losing standpoint. Let’s list the amount of answers priest has. 2, forbidden words, 2 penance, 1 shadow word pain, 2 mass hysterias, 2 light bombs, 1 plague of death. Like that’s insane. Add that up with the ressurect package and it doesn’t feel good to play against
In my opinion N’zoth isn’t the problem. What makes it problematic are the resurrect effects and Cloning Gallery in Priest and Shadow Step and Togwaggle’s Scheme in Rogue. N’Zoth’s impact would be fairly weak if you only had to kill every deathrattle minion once or twice.
I love N’zoth as a card, but the state of the meta saddens me because you really can’t outvalue several copies of N’zoth with any other deck which leaves you with playing some smorc deck to stop your opponent from reaching their N’zoth endgame. Watching Rogue shuffling 16 N’zoths in their deck is painful.
And I thought nothing will trump the Cube/Control Locks with their insane demon boards.
Honestly I’ve yet to have an N’Zoth played against me, I really don’t think the Old God is a problem.
Most games don’t make it to T10 in my experience, you’ve won or lost way before then.
I reckon if they removed Evolve from standard we’d have a pretty healthy meta, lots of decks at a similar power level, just Shaman is slightly better and so LOTS of people are playing the class and it’s getting a little boring, maybe replace Evolve with master of Evolution, fun card that’s not so broken , but would fit in very nicely with the quest .
Hopefully Team 5 act soon, they’ve been pretty good recently , and changing Evolve any sooner wouldn’t have given the players enough time to find a counter, but I think we’ve seen enough now to know Evolve is just too good in the current rotation.
It would be nice if there would be a cap to how many times you could play N’Zoth. I agree with Dack that playing that card 7+ times is definitely overkill. Shudderwock was tempered; they need to do the same to N’Zoth. Hearthstone used to be about skill and talent; now it seems to be about draining your OP’s deck of cards while you just sit back and do nothing - no skill. jmo.
