[Standard] Fun archetypes Thread

Considering most of the threads in these forums are negative. Lets make a fun thread about standard to highlight fun archtypes that aren’t really talked about or are forgotten.

I’ll start:

Imbue Druid

This is one of the most old school feeling decks in standard (it feels like old Midrange druid decks). The list I made for the archtype makes it more of minion based midrange deck with a powerful early game thanks to cards like Hatchery Helper, and Vicious Slitherspear.

It is a fun deck to pilot and try to learn the ins and outs of it.

Armor DH

This is a wild deck in standard, its dumb and awesome.

Stacking a billion copies of Arkonite Defense Crystal is ridiculously silly, and getting to copy summon starships that gain you :infinity: armor with Carnivorous Cubicle is silly broken.

Another fun detail, Ferocious Felbat’s Deathrattle can summon your starship with a billion armor procs.

This deck is silly broken.

Dragon Tempo Warrior

This is a powerful deck that barely anyone knows that it exist or plays. Before the Quest Paladin Nerf, I think this archetype was the darkhorse of the last meta.

Basically, you build and defend a powerful board of minions, and you use your dark gift discovers to find alternative win conditions or fix your curve.

Windpeak Wyrm works both as a finisher and as a control tool, and its really powerful as a 5 mana 6/6 that deals damage and “heals”.

I mostly enjoy the deck, because of the mindset need it to pilot it succesfully.

What are your favorite fun archetype this expansion?

I’ve really only been playing priest so far, three different archetypes though.

Protoss has been the most reliable workhorse. I know resuscitate has been garnering a lot of hate, but honestly its fishing pole and the way it interacts with protoss discounts that makes me really enjoy the deck. Strategically controlling what cards are currently cost one mana is fun! Then you transition through a mid game mass res into a mothership into finisher combo. I enjoy it.

Wilted Otk has been alright. Was good enough to catch a nerf, but still playable. Another deck fairly reliant on resuscitate, which is a bit annoying. You can’t really run most imbue in resuscitate, making them practically mutually exclusive. I do wish they nerfed it differently, though. Bumping up the mana cost would have actually been better in this case, letting you run other 7 cost cards and still be able to consistently res.

The most fun might be with me trying to make the quest work. Been few a couple homebrews now, thanks to the buff. Playing a cloud serpent and the first copy of your reward on turn 8 into your second copy and shadow word: ruin on turn 9 often wins games on the spot, especially if they only have 5+ attack minions on the field - looking at you quest paladin! Deck could still use some work, but its been fun messing around with it.

Honestly just hoping that control priest can reach critical mass and can pivot away from otks. Probably not, since it seems only warrior and death knight are allowed to be control or people will cry.

If you wanna play a control priest deck, you can try wild and the reno decks there.

They are viable and a lot of fun. However, they have a heavy dust investment if you didn’t play the old expansions.

God, no. Wild tis a silly place. I shall not go there.

It is a fun format thought. I enjoy both formats for different reasons.

Wild, because everything is broken, and all the classes have at least a viable meta or off meta deck (most classes have multiple viable decks).

Standard, because the format lends itself to unique archtypes that just aren’t viable or are weaker to other archtypes in the wild format.

For example, Dragon Tempo Warrior is a viable deck in standard, it’s outclassed in wild by enrage warrior.
