Is it just me or does Illidan’s demeanor take a massive and sudden swing at the end of the fight?
You get Illidan to below 50, he changes form, restores himself to 100, screams at you in anger, calls you a nuisance, gets ready to strike you down with his full power…
Then Aranna says “I’m your friend”
And Illidan is like “Ok, I’m convinced, I agree with your point now. Live life without hate and all that good stuff”
Then the fight ends.
I went: “Wut? Is… Is there a piece missing from this fight? I feel like there was supposed to be something in between”
(Unless the fight has a second phase in Challenge mode)

Yes. I thought that was weird, but I know absolutely nothing about WoW lore. In fact, most little “stories” in these types of challenges make no sense to me whatsoever.
Definitely felt like the ending of Game of Thrones. All that build up for a quick and unsatisfying finish.
The rest of it was fun though.

Clearly Illidan is a huge closet weeaboo (he had to do something those 10.000 years of imprisonment, and apparantly he chose to binge-watch anime on the internet). He heard the magical anime word, friendship, and that changed everything for him.

If he was going to be turned into a friendship enthusiast, they could at least have given him a Jamaican accent

"You fought through trials dark and true…
Now this fight ends out of the blue!
The more you play, the more its found…
That this game is a big LETDOWN!"

It makes even less sense when you haven’t downloaded the assets and they don’t do any of the dialogue at all.

Dunno, I kind of like it.
Illidan be like “Embrace your edgelord! Kill them all!”
And Aranna be like “Illidan! You’s mad edgy man, but you gotta chill too!”
And Illidan be like “NO! Edgy is who I am! It makes me deep and stuff!”
And Aranna be like “Bro! Being JUST edgy is really shallow, dude!”
And Illidan be like “yah, okay.”
At least this got his real personality compared to legion trying to make him a good guy.
Everything illidan has ever done was for himself.
Fighting the legion was for himself. He claims it was to save Azeroth but that’s because it included himself.
Anytime he said he did it for tyrande was because he wanted her.
Fighting arthas and the lich king was because kiljaeden was going to kill him.
Illidan wanting to kill the remaining rusted legion was totally in character and being willing to kill aranna for trying to stop him was totally in character. He got kicked out of Druid training by cenarius because he was arrogant and disrespectful and never changed or had any character growth.

Exactly. Which is why I found him coming to a tire-screeching halt and going “I see the light! Imma let go of my hatred now!” just by Aranna going “You really souldn’t tho” to be so jarring.
Pretty much. It would have been like in the “rejection of the gift” cinematic if when he broke xeras chains he said ok I’ll be your light guy.
