So, Reno Got Put in the Ground

What happened to Reno?

Obviously, not.

Raza priest. They don’t even need the ‘singleton’ effect, really.

Funny, I didn’t observe such wailing when they destroyed Gunslinger Kurtrus, arguable one of the more interesting ‘singleton’ cards (still not something I really like, but anyway), and the whole class archetype with it, as opposed to this bozo. I suppose it figures.

Not really. I think they’ve explained their reasoning in the patch notes — awkwardly and with unnecessary embellishments, but you can get the idea.

Reno as a card already had a sub 52% played winrate before the nerfs. I don’t think it needed another nerf, I think it needed another rework. I can almost guarantee after this nerf the card is going to be below 50% played WR.

I find it amusing that Reno was “too irritating” for other players but all the other things being played are okay. Not to mention Marin getting a smaller nerf recently.

I find it irritating when decks are STUFFED with ( buffed) asteroids, plagues, crewmates etc.and in standard you are SoL for a counter. i almost forget a brann/boomboss combo and all too often there is another boomboss copied and coming out.

I find it irritating when a priest can copy, discover, or steal your cards and use then against you.

Sargeras with taunt minions spawning followed by Kil’jaeden is extra “fun”. good bye board unless you can get a 6/12 off the board fast and still have taunts spawning while the portal deck cards get stronger and stronger.

In Wild, it’s the quests that are worse than anything else, when it’s the strong ones that are so easy to complete.

The part where Reno restricted a player’s board next turn could and should have been the only thing removed.

Other cards that do destroy minions and locations are still in the game?

So?

Do you even understand what that rather abstract figure means?

The card’s still the best board clear in the game by a lot. But losing the lock out effect makes it a lot less appealing. Also MAN is it boring now. I mean it was kind of boring and dumb before, just the most straight forward hero card.

I think you run it if you’re running one of the other highlander payoff cards, but that’s it. I’m not sorry to see it go, it’s probably one of the dullest play pattern cards in the game. When you’re losing the game, and you have it – you play it, and it’s good in almost any situation. That’s… boring.

You can tech against those, though. Also the Exodar buff speeds those decks up too.

The main reason it is bad now is not the card itself in isolation, but that it has a handicap of the rest of the deck being singular (non synergistic) cards.

Other than that it’s just the removal of Aman’Thul now for all minions; in most practical cases it’s worse than Aman’Thul; maybe good for ramp only.

You see, insane cards like this have made everyone lose the plot. This is a neutral, one-sided poof battlecry with a great hero power. This is still a great 10 mana card and well worth the singleton downside if you can also still benefit from the other singleton legendaries. It’s not as good as before, but let’s not pretend the card is garbage now.

Could it be back to 8 mana? Sure.
Is it unplayable? Don’t think so.

I liked playing Highlander Demon Hunter, Though less for Reno and more for Kurtrus being able to snipe out some combo cards from the opponent’s hand. I still think the nerf was necessary as it completely shuts down entire archetypes, But I do think they should’ve also lowered its cost to 8.

Maybe but I doubt it makes sense beyond ramp mana decks (druid/warrior). It was already at that area after the 2 mana nerf for the most part so now it’s probably exclusively at that area (for competitiveness).

E.g. if you want to totally remove the enemy’s minions, why not play a priest and keep spamming duplicated Aman’Thul’s while also using a more synergistic deck without relying on singletons?

I still don’t understand why would people play highlander decks, they added kazakus and class legendaries as Reno support I think in mean streets? The deck plays on autopilot, you basically either have threats or answers and play the most optimal and efficient card for tempo or value, in short these decks are at the mercy of the odds of a draw, why would someone enjoy playing it still confuses me to this day.

People who cheer for reno being annihilated from any useful play haven’t seen yet the new starship rogue. this crap gets enabled thanks to the reno change.

Yesterday or the day before I had a druid OTK me from hand. I had 45 life (DK) and had a big board of minions while he had none. By the end of his turn I had no minions and no hp so he did well over 100 damage from hand. This was before the nerf though so it’s probably no longer possible.

Also Reno is too weak now. Should cost 7-9 mana in this state - given the single limitation.

Wasn’t it actually ‘killed’ after the supposed ‘buff’ of singleton cards from that expansion?

Without double Window Shoppers (and weapons, perhaps), that deck lost so much power…

The stupid part here is only certain classes have dedicated starship support so if you’re maining a non starship class you are feeling like this expansion is pointless and one-sided. Reno sadly was like the only answer to some insane Druid ship on repeat due to hydration station!

This nerf is actually 2 nerfs…

  1. Change from board to minions
  2. No longer restricts opponent to 1 minion on next turn.

So the mana nerf should be reverted back to 8 mana imo.

This is coming from a person that doesn’t even use the card, just an observation.

Doesn’t really help that a lot of those archetypes are painfully unplayable, like Amogus DH or literally all of Draenei Warrior

the new hero power that reno gives seems to me like it’s still a bonus. 5 armor i guess as well.

Statistics will show how unplayable this card has become.

To me, the card is dead.

When they got rid of Reno’s board limiting, they should’ve lowered his mana cost back to 8.
