On the forums I hear players refer to “my class” or say “Mage players” and I’m wondering if I missed something fundamental.
I haven’t seen anything in game that encourages someone to identify / invest into a single class. I often see quests saying “play 3 games as any of these classes” and packs give cards seemingly equally from all classes.
Are people going out of their way to role play, or is this a budget strategy to put all their eggs in one basket/deck, or is there something else going on that I haven’t picked up on?
It’s purely personal preference / choice.
Some players (like me) like to play all classes. I also frequently switch between game modes (standard, wild, arena - battelgrounds, mercenaries, and duels do not really appeal to me).
But there are indeed players who choose to specialize in a single class. That makes it easier to get a good enough collection (since you can aggressively dust cards from other classes to craft what you need), and you learn to play that deck very well. But for me that would be more boring.

It’s preferential for some of them and it’s a budget decision for others. I play almost every class. Never could get into DH yet though.
I’d say most people play a main deck and have a few fluff decks for questing. When you can’t or don’t wish to afford all the cards available then this is a natural approach
Snap. Although I did have a go with the old OTK Lifesteal one, can’t remember the name.
