This is a relatively new account of mine, which only had Sif Mage as a full deck and the rest of the cards I had I dusted to make the deck.
I also opened some Packs from the Apprentice Ranks at which point I got bored and decided to skip them.
I read somewhere here that the amount of Cards you get (from the Catch-Up Packs) doesn’t change by dusting unwanted cards. I want to put that to the test, because I believe my experience says otherwise.
As I said I have the full Sif Mage deck which I mostly got from the Loaner (for Mage) and the rest of the cards I dusted to make it, but still I got a relatively large collection in the process of making Sif Mage therefore I was expecting to get way less cards than expected from the Catch-Up Packs.
To my surprise, first Catch-Up Pack I got 46 cards.
Is this to be expected from an account that got the rewards from “Tutorial”, Apprentice Ranks 40 →
25-ish (don’t exactly remember), plus the cards from the Loaner and also I actively “hunted down” every Expansion to get a Legendary from the 10 first Packs.
That’s why I expected my “hidden” collection to be bigger regarding the Catch-Up Packs yet getting 46 from the first one tells me that it only counted the cards I had at the moment with no regard to previously dusted cards.

I’m trying to figure out if the Legendary drop rate is higher for catch up packs than for normal packs. I hadn’t heard anything about that, but I opened 4 legendaries in 22 packs, which seems absurdly good if it’s normal drop rates.
5 cards per pack, no surprise there.
1 legendary from 22 packs and 3 achievements for collections.
Disenchant rate was 90%, I picked 90-95%, so 11 new or only 1 existing copy.
I already had 90% in all the old releases, so I got 12 x 5 cards. Of the whole stack, I got 1 purple and one orange, and the rest were dupes. Pretty meh* for a regular player, but that’s also not what catching up is for. If I ever fall off the Hearthstone wagon for a couple of years, I’ll be hoping for something like catchup packs to get back in the game.
*On the other hand, they were free. I didn’t know I was getting any of them when I bought in to the expansion.

Yes, it is, at least at first! You are guaranteed a legendary in your first 50 cards FROM EACH SET whereas normally it would be one legendary in your first 10 packs. For someone who has a lot of cards, at the very least that means you’d get 5 legendaries in your first 50 packs. If you are getting more than 5 cards in a pack due to starting out with a small collection you could get to those pity timers even faster.

Someone who looked like Reno told me I had some ketchup packets but then I remembered that Ranked sucks so I said “not today Satan” then Reno transformed back into Tha Devil and hissed “and I would have gotten away with it too if not for you meddling kids”
Idk what kids he was talking about I’m 42 and alone. So I said “what kids?” but he was gone already
