Shaman is useless (unpopular opinion) what am i doing wrong?

Played a game where I lost to a mage who basically used nothing but her hero power and won the game just by doing nothing. All my cards just sat in my hand and I couldn’t use them. Hagatha hero card kept giving me totemic might every freaking minion I played. I played so many minions and never got ONE heal spell WTF. The only viable shaman deck is murloc rush. Even that has a lot of ez to get counters. There are single cards in existence that make murloc shaman obsolete. This mage who just didn’t play minion so I couldn’t use hagatha’s scheme, without killing my small board of useless totems. Witches cauldron just fatigues you and you burn cards from your actual deck because it keeps giving you totemic might or the storm bringer. I had like 5 storm bringers and couldn’t use them because of mages busted hero power. I feel like I should be able to defend my self against that but nope you can’t do anything about it. take one damage every turn and you die with no way of stopping it. Every turn he wiped my board with top decked cards. Then just waited as the rest of my cards are useless.

Also why did shaman receive no useful buffs? why does mage get a 5 cost “jungle giants” quest reward without having to work for it? why are you buffing classes that need to be nerfed and nerfing classes that need to be buffed? Shaman needs some serious cost reductions on his spells. Like why wasn’t eureka buffed? its not a spell it just plays a minion makes it more expensive and doesn’t trigger it’s battle cry. This spell makes it so I have to sit and do nothing while i wait for minion that costs more then 6, this card doesn’t give the shaman any advantage at all. it should cost 4, or trigger battle cries. the whole point of a spell is to get a 1 time advantage, playing a 2 cost minion for 6 mana and not getting any battle cry value hurts you not helps you.

Shudderwock didn’t need all these nerfs. Now I can’t build a deck around him. All of shamans cards are trash because they don’t sync with eachother at all. No cool infinite fire ball combos, no cube warloc combos. Shaman gets nothing. Obviously this is a joke, easter egg class that blizzard intentionally makes bad. Every expansion he gets the WORST cards except this one where he gets more murlocs. cool, not like I can cast arcane explosion and wipe that deck every turn.

Might just disenchant all shaman cards I get from here on out. other classes do his job better and have more options. Actually no one can do shamans job other then shaman because shamans job is to suck and lower your rank as fast as possible. No other class does that.

First question? What type of Shaman are you trying to build?

In YotR (last year) Shaman probably received the strongest legendary cards overall so don’t play a pity song. Hagatha and Shudderwock are quite strong, Zentinmo and Electra have their places in the correct style, Krag;wa is decent, and well… the spell is poor >.>

As for the buffs, Thunderhead was a good buff that could unlock something down the road. I think the spell was ./meh to buff but so was Luna’s Pocket Galaxy which you seem to claim is far superior… it isn’t… it is gimmicky just like Shaman’s although a more fun gimmicky card imho.

What works for Shaman? Well, since you dismiss Murlocs we’ll ignore that.

What has worked for me is building value through Dragon synergy (all battlecries are repeated by Shudderwock) and a Value-based Midrange strategy. With the current meta I can’t go full Control as I did pre-patches but I can go value-MR style and it works alright… probably a tier 3 deck or so.

Shaman is far from useless. There are several viable decks for the class, from Control to Murlocs to Overload and hybrids in-between.

This has been my favorite deck since the buffs. Other than getting wrecked by Warrior (especially the straight Control variant) it’s pretty decent in any other matchup.

Shaman have always been worse mages.

Shaman have to deal with overload, while mages get naturally superior spells without the tax.

Best to just move on to another class than continue your frustration

Since Standard split I’d be willing to wager Shaman has a higher overall deck ranking on average than Mage

If we begin to talk Wild it isn’t even a competition right now… Shaman is a lot better with a lot more ability to grow going forward due to, primarily, what Shudderwock brings to the table for the class.

The core of hagathas scheme + walking fountain has allowed shaman to hang in there. I think shaman is in the best place its been in years. There’s the fast decks with murlocs and the ability to play a slower deck with scheme and fountain as the backbone. That’s more than shaman has had for a while.

As far as shudderwock goes, theres plenty of battlecry minions. You can use shudderwock to build a big board with the summon minions and then electra + bloodlust the next turn. Bomb shaman can even be viable with the bounce cards.

There’s even stealthing shudderwock with the mech card + adding 20 attack with that 4 mana taunt.

They aren’t going to be 80% winrate decks, but theres certainly shudderwock decks that will take you to rank 5 and if you really want to grind I’m sure to legend.

This is going to be a stupid question but where or how do you get your deck so that you can post it like that?

Thijs uses a Shaman at legend, basically spells, the 0/3 that draws a spell 1 cost higher, Hagatha and Shudder with “Discover 2 copies of 5 cards”. Look it up.

Mages have always been worse healers.
Mages have to fumble with secrets to gain or preserve health, while Shamans get naturally superior heal spells every expansion.

It’s called class identity…

From any website that offers decklists (most of them offer to copy either just the deck string or the whole list), or from Hearthstone Deck Tracker, a 3. party program that keeps track of your decks and, among other things, allows for those nifty overlays.

I prefer to play Mage. I was surprised to see that you as a Shaman were struggling against Mage. The Hagathas and Shudderwork are terrifying.
Shaman is a strong class. It can go aggro or control. For every class except Shaman I believe I can build a single Mage deck that can beat them. Maybe not Paladin but definitely not Shaman.

Don’t dust your Shaman cards. Learn to play Shaman. If you do make the mistake and dust them anyway please do not craft Mage- Mage is fun but very difficult to play. I have to play Murloc Shaman, Token Druid or Midrage Hunter to climb on ladder. As opposed to my Mage decks I do not have all the legendaries for Shaman, Druid or Hunter but they are way easier to play.

With Token Druid I just lost to Control Shaman with two Walking Fountains. They decided the game.

While editing a deck in-game, you can click on the hero portrait and then click “copy deck.” That’ll copy a deck code and description to your clipboard, which you can then paste anywhere else.

Madmax beat me to it, but while in your deck editor, click on the heri icon like you’re going to rename the deck and see where it says ‘copy’. That copy button creates a pastable string like this. The only part that you actually need to have copied if you want to use it is the code - the non-bolded part near the end.

Thank you, i totally overlooked that

Blockquote

Mages don’t need healing. And “fumbling” is loading the language. They don’t have to “fumble” with secrets. Secrets break the game. and its super oppresive and has no counterplay.

  • Kezan Mystic
  • Eater of Secrets
  • The current one (forgot name)

The truth is outside of Secret Hunter it is better and easier to just play around secrets than to tech them in Standard

Amen to that one brother, if you’re winning with shaman you’re playing shaman wrong

Correct, if you’re LOSING with Shaman you are playing it wrong

  • Big Shaman is good
  • Control Shaman is currently an odd but decent deck
  • Murloc Shaman is tier 1 according to HSR

This is so not true

Anyone else remember the Tunnel Trog meta?! Although the archetype was VERY opressing, the whole win condition successfully capitalized on a - until then - rarely played mechanic.

  • Big Shaman is good

Debatable.

  • Control Shaman is currently an odd but decent deck

Decent, but not viable as long as warrior’s the king of control.

  • Murloc Shaman is tier 1 according to HSR

I wouldn’t take this as face value. Rogue and warrior can run it out of steam by superior tempo plays early (Eternium Rover into Shield Slam on the Angler, combo Miscreant-Backstab etc.)

Murlocs are also more vulnerable to Unleash and zoolock, compared to mechs.

Yeah… except that control shaman can pretty easily outlast a control warrior due to being able to double Elysianna.

Control warrior is just a bit better at surviving other things. Shaman pretty reliably beat it in a control v control match.
