Surprised no one has made a topic about this. Spell Damage totem is being replaced with a totem that gives a random friendly minion +1 attack at the end of your turn.
Personally, I was hoping they would get rid of the 1/1 totem, but I do really like the new totem, especially for more aggressive decks.
Idk I definitly wish the 1/1 was replaced with the new totem, but the more I think about it, the more I realize I only want the spell damage totem when I need it. Otherwise, its an 0/2 that does nothing, and is unusable in decks without spells that deal damage.
If you would ignore that, they why wouldn’t you ignore the spell damage one? The top 2 shaman decks (Totem and Evolve) don’t run a single damage spell.
We have no idea what will stay and what will go from classic, which is where most of the good spells are. So far, all we know is that shaman is gonna be OP with their 1 mana 3/2.
Because Wrath of Air Totem is too dependent on your deck. Every other Hero Power stands fine on their own without needing too much deck synergy to support them. What if your Shaman deck doesn’t run damage spells? You will have 25% more chance to get a bad roll from Hero Power if you do, without the new change, which sucks and doesn’t apply to any other class.
An that is what made it a decent hero power was the choices it opened up. A 0/2 that requires you to have minions on board is almsot the same as the 0/2 healing totem. At least the spell damage gave you a set up for a board clear or single taget removal.
I think they didn’t really think much about how this would affect Odd Mage in Wild. A lot of those builds heavily rely on the Wrath of Air to buff up their spell damage. Maybe a new variant will arise with the Strength of Earth.
Also is it just me or is it really weird that Shamans now have 2 Earth, 1 Fire, 1 Water and 0 Air Totems to roll from? In my opinion they should have one of each from a flavour standpoint.
