Searing Totem is next to useless. It should be replaced with a 0/2 with “At the end of your turn, deal 2 damage to a random enemy.” That would be closer to what a real Searing Totem does.
That would be super overpowered. No other base hero power comes even close to being this strong. Imagine getting one of those on turn 2.

Technically, there HAS been a hero that could do that exact thing. Hunter had a card that allowed its hero power to be targeted. It saw some play, but not overwhelmingly so. Shaman and paladin hero power by default are meant to be rather underwhelming. It’s why Blizzard has often printed cards to augment those tokens. They can’t make them TOO useful or they can up rather bonkers when those cards are figured in. Remember when healing totem would heal the hero too? I don’t see this as particularly overpowered, but I guess some people did and it got nerfed to only affect minions. Now we all know that healing is generally a weak survival mechanic, and 1 healing to the hero is nothing. I could see why some shaman players would call for buffs to totems or to just have some effects reverted.
Let’s give them a double battlecry hero power instead, oh wait…
I agree. It’s not overpowered at all. One of four randomly generated plus 2 random damage not a big deal

Paying 1M for that effect, even if a random 25% chance, is busted!
Even Shaman doesnt need a buff, period!
Idiot (Searing) Totem is the price you pay for playing the deck!
I would be happy with the fifth basic totem they replaced Wrath of Air with and then reverted, over the idiot totem.
