Self Damage Warlock, Legend Viable?

Anyone think this deck could climb to Legend this meta? I’m like 5 games or so til 1,000 Rogue wins and was thinking of going back to Warlock. Had my fill of Wheel Warlock and wanted opinions on the self damage version.

Pain lock you mean. It has a deck but it was hit by nerfs recently so it’s not great. Here is one if you want to try it.

I’ve tried a lot of Warlock decks this past 30 days, and only one showed potential: InsanityLock with 2x Ethereal and Bob in it.

I managed to pull off a bit over 54% winrate with it in 70 games, mainly mid-to high legend

Painlock, 1 won out of 3 played and then gave up. Can still scam a win or two, probably, but doesn’t seem like the meta is favorable to it

Sounds a bit wild.

I dunno if your pain lock is like the one that got linked to me in here, but that deck looked like trash. I figured the insanity cards we’re a given to be played in the deck. If what I’m using works a bit better I’ll bother sharing with ya, but your bracket is prob a lot tougher so not worth it unless I know it’s good.

It was the best version of the deck when it was tier 1 a month and a half, 2 months ago

No, never before. There was a sludgelock vs insanity hybrid deck going around, but I’ve never seen or heard of the Pain vs Insanity crossover

However, curious thing is that just TODAY, by reading your thread asking about it, I decided to kick out 2x flamejuggler, 2x Geode, Zilliax and I forgot the last one, and put in the 6 fatique cards xd

I wish you good luck with testing, cuz I’ve had none xD

EDIT: Maybe you thought Painlock WAS InfinityLock? If so, this is the version I’m running, and one which I recommend 100%:

There’s a technical issue with how stats sites categorize archetypes. E.g. they may make a subjective decision to call them “painlock” or “insanity lock” but the cards might be mixed so you might want to search for both because it’s always unclear what the threasholds that cause the name changes are (they might change their filters at any moment).

What is certain is that no lock is that great today so I guess the class is just bad.

There’s someone playing sludge on the top 10K, but it’s 53% max.

I’ll try your list to be nice. If I can manage to “up” the winrate of my version against stupid Paladins, I’ll share it back.

You don’t have to, if that’s the only reason xDD To me, you’d be nicer to say you’re not interested if you aren’t xD

Gl, but it ain’t happening

I don’t know why I’m cursed like that, but none of the decks I choose to master are good against any of the pally decks. It’s my archnemesis.

EDIT: I do actually know why. Because I’m a board player, mostly, and Paladin just owns the board, straight up.

What do you mean: lynessa otk paladin? Get 2 dirty rats. That was the most embarrassing way I lost today.

No, thanks, I win more when my opponents play that instead of me

I also think teching in general is self-harm, but it makes sense if the play rate of a “tier 1” is high,

or in small metas like the ones the top 20 is playing.

Alrighty, sitting down tonight queueing your deck list right now…!
(Please note this is only at Diamond 10 1 star.)

1.) Went 2nd against DK and won!
2.) Went 2nd against Druid and Lost, impossible sht to win

I’d play more but I’m being harassed to play some Fort with friends over on discord /sigh.

I think this deck is actually pretty good. I got to do some big combos, I’ll keep it on my list and spin it some more games sometime just for enjoyment. I didn’t know the 2 drop guy discovers a spell from your first 3 played as opposed to any you cast while in hand.

First impression is I didn’t like the card Domino Effect in the deck. Biggest surprise was how much I liked the possibility of Fizzle to force combo out decks if I really needed it.

Leftover from the shaman and elemental mage domination days. Feel free to swap it out for something else, but what, i don’t know right now, cuz I haven’t played the deck for weeks

I recommend playing at least 15-20 games before you get a feeling for which card would be better to have in hand instead of that one

I’m not sure I understand this part. Force combo out decks?

What I like about it is that it gives you a bonus chance for situations where you were forced to spend all your dmg too early to survive, if you survive long enough to draw the snapshot, but also the fact that it’s quite easy to draw it, what with fracking what with Ethereal

Removing domino effect and replacing it with a minion might make the deck even more consistent, if you really don’t need AoE apart from Crescendo, because that’s 2 spells less you can draw with ethereal.

You got that right. Druid (42%) and Mage (40%) are the only losing matchups for this deck.

I got 68% winrate on it in 78 games. I’d say it’s worth putting some time to learn the deck, as it’s never going to die, especially since they keep nerfing new stuff instead of buffing them. Against Pally I had 7/8 wins, but most of those stats were racked up while playing in dumpster legend, but hey, if your goal is to just hit legend, you can be sure it’s doable with this one.

I just wanted to let you know I’m not a hypocrite xD

I played 10 games of it now in top 1k to check if it was still as viable as I remember it to be, and it is

My score is 7-2 with 1 tie

Sample of 10, in a game of very high skewness. Even a coin toss needs more samples.

No.

This is advanced probability. I wouldn’t expect you to know anything about it.

It’s Bayesian inference. We started from a priori probability that the deck was still viable a month ago, with stats of 68% in 78 games confirming its viability. Then we jumped to “is this deck still viable” and came up with 70% winrate in 10 games.

Since both probabilities are skewed in favor of “deck is viable”, that conclusion is more likely than the other.

I was wondering, if that was wild conjecture you just googled without getting it, but that confirmed it.

In case it’s unclear, high skewness of that nature is precisely why a small sample size is bad.

In this case, the stronger apriori sample of 78 games aligns closely with the weaker posteriori sample of 10 games, which gives it more support

It’s intuitive

I don’t doubt ya lol. I played the deck and felt the power… It would just be nice if Warlock could catch a bloody break and not suffer with nerfs galore. Lot of cards just feel gross being + 1 mana’d for Lock.

I’m excited for the class with the upcoming Starcraft miniset (Hopefully good aggro cards.)

I should’ve played your list more for the quest reset, but I raged deleted it already and my Self-Damage list like, 2 days ago last time I played .

I did the dailies right now with this pile I put together 5-0 and no, that doesn’t make this deck good. My meta is just stupidity right now…-games def not rigged right?-

Tada…the old beaten Snake came back to bite some of the annoying classes.

yeah it’s quite annoying…and yet it still works!

Btw I kinda agree, at least 1 domino effect has to go out, and we need to replace it with a minion, to make Ethereal draws more consistent

This might become a sleeper broken deck, so don’t forget about it while you’re experimenting with other (un)dead decks xD
