My Samuro hit a minion with 3 damage, but it didn’t trigger the frenzy. The opponent’s secret killed him before activating. The secret in question is Reckoning.
I noticed the same with Imprisoned Observer. It activated it’s ability after being dormant, then it hit 2 different minions for 2 damage, dealing a total of 4 damage but the Reckoning didn’t activate.
The wording on Frenzy is “A one-time effect after this survives damage”
The wording on Reckoning is “After a minion deals 3 or more damage, destroy it”
Because both trigger “after” the attack, the effects should trigger in the order they were played. If reckoning was played first and Samuro has at least 3 attack, the secret should destroy Samuro before his frenzy is able to trigger. Since Samuro is destroyed before frenzy triggers, the minion is no longer alive and frenzy can no longer trigger (since surviving is a condition of the frenzy keyword).
As far as I know this shouldn’t happen if Samuro has less than 3 attack, even if he deals more than 3 damage in total with the frenzy, because dealing less than 3 damage multiple times isn’t treated the same as dealing more than 3 damage.
This is actually the reason the interaction with imprisoned observer isn’t a bug either - dealing 2 damage twice isn’t the same as dealing 4 damage for the purpose of Reckoning.
Keywords activate before effects as per the rules. This was explained with the introduction of Reborn. This looks more like a developer got lazy and slapped this secret with “Frenzy” as the minion has to survive to be destroyed and they forgot about it.
This is definitely a bug.
