I’ve never seen this before. My opponent and I were both the same rank…I won and I lost 1 rank…
I have seen this happen a few times on streams over the years.
What I think happens is once you hit [Play] your rank is saved for display purposes.
BUT someone could hit [Play] after you and, due to the dynamic nature of legend ranks, could “own” the same rank you do/did when they hit [Play].
That is my theory.
It is pretty rare, but does happen.
Yeah fairly common this.
It’s also MMR based, so if both players have identical MMR, they have an identical rank I presume.

No. Each legend rank is (supposed to be) unique. First in first served for “ties” on MMR is my belief.
Look through all of the leaderboards and you will never see 2 people with the same rank, and top 200 is where MMR’s are the closest so the most likely bracket for this phenomenon to occur.
