Greetings. I would like to inform you about some issues in Russian localization. The list may not be complete, these are just what I noticed.
Critical card text issues:
- One Hit Wonder: Translation says YOU gain Poison, which is misleading.
English voicelines:
- Gold Panner: Voicelines when drawing a card and when making it golden. They were in game for some time but become English in some patch.
Formatting:
- Tyr: Missing space between a word and a number.
- Reinforced Plating: There is a space between a plus sign and a number which is not present in other similar cards.
- The Headless Horseman: Card text needs some more attention. In English rhymed lines are easy to read thanks to line breaks. In Russian, even though translators managed to keep the rhyme to some extent, card text is just a mess with random words in italic here and there. I understand how hard it is to translate rhymed text, and any other restrictions like line length make it even more difficult, but still.
Text is too small and hard to read:
- Arcanite Ripper
- Gnomelia, S.A.F.E. Pilot
- Reno, Lone Ranger
Other small issues:
- Hazy Concoction: Has a period at the end of the card name.
- Howdyfin: Has an exclamation mark in the card name.
- Related Cards menu: Translation says “similar cards”, which is quite different from what “related” means.
There are also many cards where text just looks ugly because of line breaks (one short word in a line, for example) or wording, but you will have to check it in game, I don’t think it will be easy to spot in translation tool. Here’s the list of standard cards where I think text can be improved:
- Algalon the Observer
- Ancient of Growth
- Cosmic Keyboard
- Disciple of Golganneth
- DJ Manastorm
- Everything Must Go!
- Fanottem, Lord of the Opera
- Forge of Wills
- Frostbolt
- Funnel Cake
- Gnome Muncher
- Horseshoe Slinger
- Infinitize the Maxitude
- Lightning Reflexes
- Lightning Storm
- Mining Casualties
- Painted Canvasaur
- Plagiarizarrr
- Power Chord: Synchronize
- Remixed Musician
- Runes of Darkness
- Rustrot Viper
- Shadow Ascendant
- Soulstealer
- Staff of the Primus
- Swipe
- Tess Greymane
- Trinket Artist
- Verse Riff
- Watercannon
- Yelling Yodeler
I noticed in some card text you use hyphenation. Since Russian letters and words are naturally wider than English, this is a very good idea. And as a manga translator, I can confirm that this is a very powerful tool to make text blocks look pretty, so please use it more often (but not too often of course, I usually restrain myself for no more than one hyphenated word in a text block).
Thank you for your work!
