Roping isn't allowed in other games, why not this one?

Other games don’t allow roping as it is a form of BMing, so I don’t understand why HS isn’t the same. On a turn where your opponent truly has nothing to play should have the rest of their turn skipped like its done in LoR. Or an opponent who is consistently roping and playing with the board should get their next turns shortened. In MTG, roping is reportable if it is continued.
I understand HS requires strategy and a lot of thought, but most matches aren’t playing for a prize and they are decks people are used to playing. There is little reason a typical ranked player needs to rope every turn.

there is a big difference between maliciously roping in a lost game, and taking your time and plan your turns in a back and forth game.

although i suspect you would be one of those that report everyone who dont play their turn in 20s.

I’m going to repeat the statements I put in my original post:

Most matches aren’t playing for a prize and they are decks people are used to playing. There is little reason a typical ranked player needs to rope every turn.

On a turn where your opponent truly has nothing to play should have the rest of their turn skipped like its done in LoR.

This is the only card game I know of that doesn’t try and make sure games don’t last 30 minutes because someone wants to BM you.

people would just wait until the end of the rope to play their stuff if their intent is really to rope every turn to annoy the opponent.

and when they do that, how does the system differentiates someone who’s bming and someone who’s genuinely thinking and planning the perfect turn ?

Except that if they rope out of one turn, there is a shorter timer on their next turn, at least until they play something. What you’re referring to is already in the game.

Sure, people can let the rope burn down to almost the end and then click end turn to prevent that shorter timer, but any solution around that would affect the ability to carefully consider plays before making them.

Yeah and way back in MTG Online not to be confused with the current MTG Arena you could take a 10 minute. As long as you still had time on your chess clock you could take all the time in the world.

you’re completely missing his point.

you can play your hand and purposely wait for your rope to burn even tho you can’t play anything else. That won’t make your time shorter. It’s only shorter if you play nothing and let the rope completely burn. If you just end your turn 1 second before it’s over, your next turn won’t be shortened.

he wants people who take a while to play to have their turns shortened. There’s 1 min 30 per turn I believe or 1 min 15, if someone waits for that timer to end every turn, that’s very annoying. Some people do it on purpose cause they’re scum

No, you’re missing my point. I’m talking about people who do make their plays, then sit and play with the board for the rest of their turn with no attacks/cards to play.

Also *her point.

I think the amount of time each player is given per turn is part of strategy, similar to the amount of health you have. You also have an amount of time per each turn to think and strategize. Once they’ve used all their mana, they still have the remainder of their timer to think. Also, they could mask what you’re talking about by waiting to play all their mana until almost the end of their turn, anyway.

you’re wrong. i did understand your point and my reply still stands.

you can just wait a minute until you play your cards rather than just playing them in the first 10 seconds and wait. very easily doable if your purpose is to annoy the opponent.

I had someone intentionally rope every turn, they would play their hand as usual and then just sit there wasting my time, I know they werent afk because whenever I emoted they would emote back so its obvious it was just a toxic player, my suspicion was later confirmed when I beat them and they added me to tell me to kill myself and other hateful things. The person even said in the chat to me “i love roping”. I wish these kinds of players could get reported for toxic behaviour and banned.

Unless you’re playing a deck with absolutely no substance, no one would play all their playable cards with 10 seconds left.

I think that is worth reporting. You should contact blizzard and tell them his tag for HS so they can investigate what he messaged you. As for roping each turn, there’s no solid way of knowing whether the person is being toxic or really just using the time to strategize, so it’s not easy to suggest implementing a shortening of turn. They could be reflecting on what they just played. What’s the point of having 1 min 30 sec if you don’t have 1 min 30 sec?

The point isn’t to waste people’s time. It’s kind of obvious when the opponent has 3 or less cards in hand and just sits there and ends each turn not playing anything because they can’t.

Maybe they are using their turn to get a drink of water. They are people. It’s all part of the game. In long games of chess the timer still runs and you can go to the bathroom during your turn. Imagine playing a real card game with a friend and telling them to hurry up? Think others would want to play with you?

while they do exist they are rare, and certainly not a big enough problem to punish a majority of the player base.

Smart! I’m sure they rope every single turn to refill their water bottle. Why didn’t I think of that ?

Not sure if you want to list LoR. If you do have cards to play you can rope multiple times each round. Opponent plays low cost card, ropes, ends turn. You play card and ends turn. Opponent plays another low cost card, ropes, ends turn.

That has happened to me quite a few times in LoR. It is only if you truly have nothing to play that it automatically flips.

Sure, I’m just saying when its clearly evident the opponent is just being toxic and intentionally roping it should be reportable.

It should be, but it’s hard to prove and would require much time out of the Blizzard staff.
