Regis discusses nerf targets

For the most part I agree: Mechashark and Switcheroo don’t need nerfs at all.

What I’d personally like to see for nerfs:

  • Pufferfist to 3 Health (from 4).
  • Multi-Strike to +1 Attack (from +2).
  • Wildheart Guff hero power to empty mana crystals (from full).
  • Kael’thas Sunstrider to every third spell costing 1 Mana (from 0).
  • The Darkness is banned. Nevermind, no Switcheroo nerf is needed, even in Wild.

I’d also buff several cards:

  • Azsharan Saber to 3 Mana (from 4).
  • Lightmaw Netherdrake to 5 Health (from 4).
  • Tooth of Nefarian to 2 Mana (from 3).
  • Coral Keeper to 4/5 stats (from 3/4).
  • Hellfire to 3 Mana (from 4).
  • Dragged Below to 3 Mana (from 4).
  • Sira’kess Cultist to 2 Mana (from 3).
  • Gorloc Ravager to 4 Health (from 3).

I know those buff suggestions are Warlock focused but the class is truly struggling to make anything work currently.

I would love to see Defend the Dwarven District Quest to 3/3/3.

Sign me up. I’m usually a warlock player. This expansion? Nope.

Quest Hunter in Standard is currently 50.4% winrate. That’s pretty close to the balance ideal of 50%. I think a nerf would be a net detriment.

What’s the rationale for the switcheroo combo not needing a nerf? Cause I’m 90% sure it gets one.

Yeah I know; but it is way to easy to complete in Wild and I’m a wild player. For standard is much harder to win.

It’s as someone else said here. It’s like a coin flip. The priest either draws right or dies/concede. It is the epitome of unfun gameplay. It’s kinda of a meme, and its winrate doesn’t justify nerfs. I believe its functionality justifies a nerf, or something.

Of all my switcheroo runs I tried is all concedes and only 1; I was able to succeed.

Whatcha mean? Sorry.

The deck where you have only 2 minions in the deck to switch for potentially a strong opening to win.

It doesn’t need a nerf in Standard. I edited the OP to include Wild changes.

I agree. It’s an early win con that’s difficult to answer for many classes. It’s the same as gibberling, trogg, the 1/4 murloc, etc. Those all caught nerfs because non-games are something they really try avoid.

So I’m curious why Mr McB and Regis think it doesn’t need one won’t get one.

As usual, you’re basing this entirely off win rate?

Nerfs are often made regardless of winrate. Despite some people that believe only winrate ought to be considered, they have to understand that this is a game and feelings (namely fun/unfun) need to be considered. That’s the reality.

Not entirely. Actually if I was basing things solely off current winrate in Diamond I’d be wanting to nerf the deck. I am willing to concede that this is a close call. But there are numerous factors that indicate that winrate should drop below 50% in Diamond for Meme Priest in the near future, or at least within less than 1% of 50% if still above. At those winrate levels it shouldn’t be a problem.

Such factors include:

  • Steeply declining populatity at all ranks
  • 48.4% winrate at top Legend
  • Increasing populatity of Smothering Starfish

@SrotieMcB, could you examine this deck and tell me what I should switch out for these tech cards? Namely Smothering Starfish.

Whatcha think?

Edit: Sorry to, like, put you on the spot. It’s only that I have a high regard for your skill and knowledge of the game.

Blademaster Okani is just as good. Hard mull for it against Priests.

Low win rate and not many people are playing it anymore. With a low win rate, it’s amusement value waned off rather quickly. There are still a few out there, but not that many. There is a competitive Priest deck out there that uses Switcheroo (but not the Fin Twin / Deathwing combo), and it wouldn’t be a good decision to nerf that deck.

I don’t play wild mode. How big an issue is Switcheroo there? I believe that mode should also be considered.

Absolutely, and this is the primary reason Switcheroo shouldn’t be nerfed. Shellfish Priest really shouldn’t be hit by splash damage.

Well, I don’t know if I’d call Tier 4 “competitive.” But it’s kinda high Tier 4 and Priest should have something that isn’t a complete meme.

It’s not really that low in Diamond 4-1. Over the last week, 52.23%. Over the past 3 days, 51.29%. Over the past 24 hours, 51.38% (small sample size though).

The format has a 1 Mana 1/1 Charge, a 20/20 minion that’s very difficult to un-dormant, and a 3 Mana Priest spell that copies a minion and sets the copy’s Health to 1.

I’m suggesting banning the 20/20. With that out of the format, biggest available is 12/12.
