Rank Decays too fast

Can we get some kind of grace period where our rank doesn’t decay for 6 hours or something after a win? Tired of waking up just to see my rank 10-12 lower than it was when I logged off the last night.

that’s impossible … if you do that there will be a mess of players at same rank and leaderbords will become useless.

And btw it’s not you that lose ranks , that’s the consequence of other players gaining ranks

Your rank doesn’t decay at all, other players overtake you while you are offline.

This.

Your MMR stays the same, it’s just that other players surpass yours.

The higher your MMR, the less likely you are to lose ranks

That’s half right. Assuming a normal (“bell curve”) distribution, the difference in raw score between you and the player below you decreases the closer you are to the mean. so if your MMR is below average, the lower your MMR the less likely you are to lose ranks — except it’s invisible so you wouldn’t notice anyway.

There is a surge of players this season. Good to see Hearthstone popular again.

That’s not how it works in HS though.

If someone is #1 Legend half way in the season, his MMR is so high that not many people will surpass him.

However, if someone is dumpster Legend, there are also a lot of other players who will enter legend after him, making is rank drop even further, there’s a lot of people making Legend right now.

So you could have the worst MMR ranked 5000/5000 halfway through and still finish 10000/10000 if 5000 more players get there, that’s what’s happening right now.

By “below the mean” I didn’t mean dumpster Legend, I meant below the overall mean, including non-Legend players. That’s why I said that it’s invisible to them.

Well, yeah, but that’s not what we’re discussing in the OP.

It doesn’t even matter outside of Legend since the rank doesn’t change.

I’m currently rank 68 and it stopped decaying. Also decaying is just the terminology we use to say passively losing ranks, I know your rank doesn’t actually decay for no reason.

In your case your rank was never decaying. Other active players were taking your rank by actually playing the game while you were sleeping, or working, or otherwise not playing the game.

Rank decay is artificially introduced to decay your rank. What you experienced is not. You cant expect everyone else to stop playing the game just because you do.

Legend ranks are unique. Only 1 person can ever be rank 68 legend (outside of the occasional visual bug) at a time/per server. So you should expect to drop ranks when you log off in legend ranks.
