Q RIP PIP MageZ

Mage is DOA - Dead Once Again.

I built my first elemental mage deck yesterday, after the nerfs. I won 5 in a row and 7 of 8 games. A few games I didn’t even play lamplighter once. The one I lost was to an identical elemental mage deck. It felt far from dead.

This is total slander…
Mage has never been this good you just need to use the new class skin.

They should just rename Tsunami to: “We hate Mage players”.
Team 5. The bias is sickeningly blatant.
And I see clearly what they are trying to do.
They want to force mage players to go to other classes, to the extent of giving every other class access to mage’s best cards, and then giving mage the crummiest cards possible both in dual class and in tourist.
It will fail of course, just like all their stupid ideas do, because mage players will not be forced to do anything.
Might as well shut the game down, cause that’s what it will take.

Looks like you haven’t seen Big spell mage with the Orb and Tsunami in action

The Orb casts Sunset Volley instead of Tsunami, every time, so 2x Tsunami to clear the board into Orb = gg

I got absolutely murdered by that combo yesterday

Mage had to take another one for the team, those tendril decks other classes play need to exist apparently.

And the class is little more than storage for others this days so it checks out.

Well, I will believe it is worth a tinker’s dam when I see it.
You cannot convince me that team 5 isn’t doing all they can to force mage players into other classes.

Just so players don’t mistakenly accuse me of profanity:
Tinker’s dam::
a small piece of dough or putty that was fashioned to hold molten solder in place while the tinker was repairing pots and pan

Yeah, don’t worry, I already know there’s no point in trying

The thing is, Mage always has at least a tier 2 or tier 3 deck, which can be brought into top 500 legend (and better) simply based on superior skills, even though it’s not a tier 1 deck

I know, because Sludgelock is usually a tier 3 deck (now it’s not even tiered AT ALL) and I’m still in top 500 with it

Do you see me complaining about warlock? It would be the same as you complaining about mage - plenty of decks to choose from, all viable, more than 4k wins total on the class.

But no, you don’t see that. If I didn’t like the class, I would have just swapped it for another.

Btw, you don’t even like the Mage class. At all. If you liked it, you would play all its’ decks all the time. You are a creature of habit, and live in the past, so you’re used to “liking” that class. However, times change, we change, our tastes change, and you’re just stuck with your own habits, perpetually frustrated.

Well, I am not you. I do respect your opinions though.
You are a better gamer than I will ever be.
I do however; consider myself something of an expert on people and their motivations.
In the case of Team 5, they want parity in play rates, and they do not care how low they sink to achieve it.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised at all if they delete mage altogether, and make it’s cards all neutrals.

Yes, I would say that’s true, and if we forget for a second that hunter exists, they succeeded with it this time

Yeah. And all they had to do to achieve that was abandon any pretense of integrity.

This is exactly Mals’ problem

Mage has been viable, pretty much a tier2/tier1 deck every expansion. Yet, ain’t nothing like good ol’ fasioned freeze mage from almost 11 years ago I guess.

if you want to talk about actual decks murdered by the nerfs, rogue is probably the single worst class in the game right now, Lamplighter nerf killed the deck, thief rogue is a joke, pirate rogue is entirely outclassed by pirate shaman/DH, even Exca Rogue (the best deck by winrate) is basically just scraping by 49% WR while running exactly no new cards.

You should complain.

It isn’t because you can climb with it that it isn’t wrong.

hilarious. I play three different mage decks daily.
Not that you would know.

Play Rogue in Wild. Practically any deckstyle you want to run is viable, thanks to years of OP cards and no lasting nerfs.

A fully charged Orb is great I’m not denying that, the problem for mage is surviving long enough to get to that point in the game! Even that is delayed another turn 10 to get tsunami off first.
Without a Lucky hit mana cheat like surfalpod, tsunami at 8 was good control piece that could hit off void scripture or stack with Artificer for 8 armor.
Even pulled by the elemental the lower mana cost would still be effectively playable earlier.

Yeah, but that’s literally the only thing you have to wait for, you don’t care for playing the cheaper spells at all, your only goal is to control the board and your HP bar

I mean, I haven’t tried it yet, that’s how it seems to me, it seems fun and challenging

The question is - is it worth the challenge?

EDIT: Also, you should mostly have Tsunami discounted by Watercolor Artist or discovered from Primordial Glyph!

I Agree the goal is never to spend 10 mana on it but it’s seemingly just not that reliable to cheat it. I’d take the old 8 mana version being reduced by watercolor into a playable turn 5-6 than the new still costing 7-8 after turn 4 it’s just too slow or lucky cheat.

Actually Ive been trashing D5-1 with my Big Spell Mage. Surfalopod into Watercolor to draw a free 10-cost Tsunami wins a lot of games. King Tide on 4 into Tsunami on 5 also wins a lot of games. Folks can’t deal with 12/24 of stats on turn 5 or 6. Heck, I’ve even won games on t6 because I get double Bellhop + Coin in my starting hand and some greedy decks just cant deal with 12/12 in stats out by t3 (and by t5 Im casting Sunset Volley or Tsunami into your face).

I use Taunts to survive early game and against some aggro decks I mulligan for T4 Lifeguard into T5 Star Power to heal up.

I’ve been enjoying the deck! (Auto-concede vs any plague DK and Painlock but I’ll give it a bash vs any other opponent).
