Not gonna lie. It is such a pointless effect that It is good for Sales without breaking the game.
They should have gone with no mana limit at all.
Still the combo with naralex is strong enough to make dragon druid great again.
I see a direction towards slow decks. Also that Ysera card seems bad to be used by most decks, especially faster and mid-range decks.
It makes sense because the current meta is a extremely fast, and Blizzard is known to yo-yo.

That said, my first and only game so far with the new freebie 2 drop gave me a really good darkgift (+4 health and taunt, and I picked the 4/4 rush ogre). I suspect to counteract what imbue classes can do late game, dark gift classes will be able to put on pressure fast, and/or do some explosive things (and then you have warlock who may still have strong late game, because that’s warlock for ya)
From online card library, here’s the list of dark gift effects
+3 attack and lifesteal
+2/+2 and elusive
Cost 2 less but has -2 attack

Seems like after the tourist mechanic they want all the classes to be generally the same… but now they want standard and wild to be the same too.
They’ve pretty much eroded all the original design from when heartstone started (fatigue gone with kil’jaden… increasing hero health with stuff like the DK vampiric card/snake. and now you want 20 mana everyone gets 20 mana with that dragon). Thats not necessarily bad but historically they’ve done really poorly in balancing interactions between cards and I can only imagine the sort of degenerate combos people are going to be able to do with 12-15 mana. The last thing I want to do when playing standard is go up against a bunch of degenerate nonsense… if I did I would be in wild. Oh well.
They have given up on balancing druid, now all classes get to be druid with bigger mana pools and universal Choose One

I’ve only used it like 5 times and haven’t seen a class drop.
Somebody on reddit said they can’t wait to die to a ceaseless with charge (one of the new cards lets you discover a legendary with dark gift, so… yeah unless they hard code an exception or something, be prepared to play around that )

I recently saw Jambre who was playing Shaman get offered a Turbulus (shaman minion) off of a dark gift. So it is possible to get class cards from the gift.

The only challenge is living that long (and keeping a hand big enough to abuse this… but if the priest power generates cards of some kind, oh boy
